Japan National Route 280
- ... that what today is Japan National Route 280 was established for officials traveling through northern Japan and it also had defensive importance to the Japanese who feared of a Russian incursion into Ezo? Source: "What is known today as National Route 280 was originally established during the Edo period by Tokugawa Ieyasu as the Matsumaedō. Its primary purpose was for government officials traveling through the area as a branch of the Ōshū Kaidō, one of the Edo Five Routes connecting the capital to the rest of Japan. It also had defensive importance to the Japanese who feared a of a Russian incursion into Ezo which was ruled by the Matsumae clan; however the main threat to Japanese control of the area was rebellion by the native Ainu." - @Mccunicano: New enough and large enough expansion. No QPQ necessary; first nomination. However, I cannot find the quote at all in Jansen. Can I get clarification? I need it to verify the accuracy of the hook.
- As to the hook, I would like to suggest that the hook be split into one or the other... Raymie (t • c) 03:16, 13 September 2019 (UTC)
- ALT1: ... that National Route 280 was originally established as a road for officials traveling through northern Japan?
- ALT2: ... that National Route 280 was of defensive importance to the Japanese, who feared a Russian incursion into Ezo?
- I like the second hook you suggested, it's a bit more compact than the hook I proposed, but it still gets the same message across. As for the source, Jansen doesn't directly state that the Matsumaedō was important in this regard, but he does mention the importance of the domain it went to. I just added a Japanese source that directly talks about the importance of the road in regards to the Russian interests in the area. Mccunicano 01:55, 14 September 2019 (UTC)
