Source: University of Oregon Alumni Association News, 15 July 2015, says: "on May 4, 1945 … Thayer’s reconnaissance platoon was in Austria … they found … the Gunskirchen Lager death camp, home to 15,000 prisoners who had been abandoned by the Nazis …"
