Invasion of the Cape Colony (1795); Capitulation of Saldanha Bay
[edit]( Back to T:TDYK )
( Article history links: )
- ... that a year after the successful British invasion of the Cape Colony in 1795, a Dutch reinforcement convoy was forced to surrender at the Capitulation of Saldanha Bay?

- Comment: Full disclosure: although these articles have been newly created and moved from my userspace, each replaced a poorly written and lightly sourced article that existed previously and has been redirected: Battle of Muizenberg and Battle of Saldanha Bay (1796) respectively.--Jackyd101 (talk) 00:57, 14 June 2015 (UTC)

- I don't think we need quibble about the newness and size criteria because these two articles qualify for DYK as newly promoted GAs. The hook fact about the capitulation at Saldanha Bay has an inline citation, and the 1795 date for the invasion and its success are not in dispute. The articles are neutral but I couldn't check for close paraphrasing because of lack of access to the sources. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 08:31, 16 July 2015 (UTC)
