Hypera postica

[edit]
  • ... that the cocoon of a tiny wasp that parasitises the alfalfa weevil can "jump"? Source: "The parasitoid cocoon may be found in the cocoons of the alfalfa weevil, and these parasitoid cocoons appear to "jump" several centimeters when disturbed."

5x expanded by Cwmhiraeth (talk). Self-nominated at 19:45, 14 October 2016 (UTC).

  • begin review--Kevmin § 05:12, 15 October 2016 (UTC)
  • Article expansion is new enough and long enough for the 5x requirement. The article is referenced, neutral, and the hook is referenced. No policy issues are identified with the prose. Currently the hook follows the citation which notes only B. anurus cocoons "jump". The article is not clear on that and seems to read that both do. After that is clarified then the article should be good.--Kevmin § 20:23, 15 October 2016 (UTC)
@Kevmin: I have rephrased the article. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 09:02, 16 October 2016 (UTC)
@Cwmhiraeth: The problem still remains, the article still incorrectly implies cocoons of both species jump.--Kevmin § 21:27, 16 October 2016 (UTC)
@Kevmin:I don't quite understand your problem with the article. The source does not explain what happens, but by the time the weevil and wasp larvae both pupate, there can't be much left of the weevil larva, and its cocoon is probably just a dry husk. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 04:58, 17 October 2016 (UTC)
@Cwmhiraeth: I'm not talking of the interaction with the larvae and the parasite. I have a problem with the current wording that indicated both wasp parasite species have cocoons which "jump", when the source article indicates only one of the Bathylplectes species does. (PS the article does not indicate if the wasp parasite description is for one or both species)--Kevmin § 14:39, 17 October 2016 (UTC)
Now I see what you are talking about. My guess is that the cocoon of both species can jump, but actually I think the hook is OK as it just says "a" wasp and does not specify what species it is. Also I now realise you are referring to #4 (B. anurus) while I was referring to #2 (both wasps). Perhaps it would be safer to go for ALT1, but its a pity because I like the jumping cocoons!

:*ALT1 ... that the larvae of the alfalfa weevil pupates in a pea-size, white woven cocoon?Cwmhiraeth (talk) 18:36, 17 October 2016 (UTC)

  • There was nothing wrong with the hook. It follows the source you used in the article, which clarifies which of the wasp species cocoons can jump. Its only the Wiki article that does not have the distinction and information from the reference. Fix that and the original hook is good to go.--Kevmin § 20:44, 17 October 2016 (UTC)
We might be there now! Sorry for the misunderstandings. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 10:53, 18 October 2016 (UTC)
  • Article is now good to go, with no issues identified now. :D --Kevmin § 12:12, 18 October 2016 (UTC)
  • Hi, I came by to promote this, but do not see anything about jumping "several centimetres" in the source you're quoting. Thanks, Yoninah (talk) 22:24, 12 November 2016 (UTC)
  • Never mind, I just found it in a different source, and added that cite to the sentence. Restoring tick per Kevmin's review. Yoninah (talk) 22:26, 12 November 2016 (UTC)
