History of Wat Phra Dhammakaya
[edit]- ... that the Thai Buddhist temple Wat Phra Dhammakaya broke a Guinness World Record for organizing the longest journey walking over flower petals? Source: "One thousand, one hundred and thirty Buddhist monks broke the record for the Longest journey walking on flower petals on the fourth Dhammachai Dhutanga pilgrimage" (Guinness World Records, 2015); "Yet Buddhist monks belonging to the Dhammakaya Buddhist cult can be seen as another example of marketizing religions in their more recent city walks. Over 1000 monks walked barefoot at a stretch of 300 over kilometers and were well received by the Buddhist devotees." (Agarwal, 2015
ALT1:... that the Thai Buddhist temple Wat Phra Dhammakaya organized protests which prevented a beer company from listing on the stock market in Thailand, in what would have been the largest listing in Thai history? แต่วัดที่จัดกิจกรรมเทเหล้าเผาบุหรี่มาตลอด ก็คือ วัดพระธรรมกาย" ['The front page of many newspapers specify that 5000 monks gathered in front of the Stock Exchange of Thailand led by a representative of the monastic community... the secretary of the Thai Buddhist Monks National Coordination Center ... The news specified that the coordination center continuously organized ceremonies for giving up drinking and smoking. But Nation Weekend reporters were not able to find this coordination center ... But the temple that organizes ceremonies for giving up drinking and smoking is Wat Phra Dhammakaya'] (The Nation, 2005); Source: "An attempt by Thailand's largest brewer to list on the stock market has been put on hold after protests by Buddhist monks worried by growing alcohol sales." (BBC, 2005); Source: "Kittiratt Na-Ranong, Thailand’s stock market chief, resigned on Wednesday in an unusual show of responsibility as a result of the Thai bourse’s losing what would have been its biggest initial public offering to its rival in Singapore." (New York Times, 2006).

- Comment: Part of the ALT1 hook is supported by a Thai source. The temple used the coordination center's name in their protests. But a The Nation reporter discovered that it was actually Wat Phra Dhammakaya.
Improved to Good Article status by Farang Rak Tham (talk) and Wikiman5676 (talk). Nominated by Farang Rak Tham (talk) at 12:52, 8 February 2018 (UTC).
- Article is newly promoted, long enough, and with no outstanding issues. QPQ done. Hooks verified, and original hook is good to go. Alt1, at 206 characters, is too long. (Feel free to revise, but I think the Guinness records bit is quite interesting enough.) --Paul_012 (talk) 12:16, 15 February 2018 (UTC)
- Thanks, Paul_012! Your Thai language is really good, as evidenced by your recent edits on Wiki articles. I have an ALT2 to suggest:
- ALT2: ... that the Thai Buddhist temple Wat Phra Dhammakaya organized protests which prevented a large beer company from listing on the stock market in Thailand? (Same sources)
- --Farang Rak Tham (Talk) 21:50, 15 February 2018 (UTC)
- Returning from prep. A hook about the main article, Wat Phra Dhammakaya, ran only a few days ago, so this needs to be saved a while longer. Also, a suggestion was made at WT:DYK#Prep 1 for this alt hook:
- ALT3: ... that the history of Wat Phra Dhammakaya, a giant Thai Buddhist temple, included organized protests in the 2000s that prevented a large beer company from listing on the Thai stock market? Yoninah (talk) 18:55, 28 February 2018 (UTC)
- Yoninah, Paul 012, isn't the grammar is a little off here? History is the subject, yet we add "a giant ... temple". Needs a little tweaking, but I am not certain how.--Farang Rak Tham (Talk) 20:19, 28 February 2018 (UTC)
- I like it without tweak, seems clear enough. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:56, 28 February 2018 (UTC)
- I also like ALT3. I changed "which" to "that". I'd like to remind the nominator that if text was copied from the mother article, Wat Phra Dhammakaya, it needs to be noted on the talk page using this template. Yoninah (talk) 23:00, 28 February 2018 (UTC)
- Is the template that is currently used, {{copied|from=Wat Phra Dhammakaya|to=History of Wat Phra Dhammakaya}}, okay as well? Just asking.--Farang Rak Tham (Talk) 22:32, 1 March 2018 (UTC)
* I just received a message from a bot saying that I need to do something about this nomination. I presume that means that the Copied From template currently used on the page does not suffice. Replacing it now.--Farang Rak Tham (Talk) 12:24, 2 March 2018 (UTC)
- Replaced.--Farang Rak Tham (Talk) 12:38, 2 March 2018 (UTC)
- Yoninah, is there anything more i need to do about this nomination, for it to pass? It's the oldest backlogged nomination now.--Farang Rak Tham (Talk) 11:59, 9 April 2018 (UTC)
- @Farang Rak Tham: it's a little unclear to me what you did on the talk pages. You have one copied template on Talk:History of Wat Phra Dhammakaya and two on Talk:Wat Phra Dhammakaya. None of them have a date stamp, which is part of Template:Copied. Yoninah (talk) 18:45, 9 April 2018 (UTC)
- Yoninah, I've corrected the diff link in the template. I don't think an explicit date parameter should be required when diffs are provided; date information is readily available if one follows the link. In any case, an attribution statement was provided in the original edit summary of the split, which adequately satisfied WP:CWW. I don't think there are outstanding attribution concerns. The question is whether enough time has passed from the previous related DYK. --Paul_012 (talk) 05:24, 10 April 2018 (UTC)
