Hi Jolly Monument
- ... that the Hi Jolly Monument, (pictured) in Quartzsite, Arizona, marks the grave of Haiji Ali, recruited to the United States to drive and tend camels for the United States Camel Corps? Source: multiple sources, covered in most of the refs, including the Historic Property Information Form.
Created by MB (talk) and ArizonaAltier (talk). Nominated by MB (talk) at 20:11, 15 January 2022 (UTC).
- Review started. I'll be back soon with relevant feedback. Nick Moyes (talk) 22:37, 15 January 2022 (UTC)
- I do not think this page really needs to exist as a stand-alone article at all. I recommend that its content should be merged into that at Hi Jolly, where the few extra lines and citations about this monument would seem most appropriate. For that reason I am reluctant to promote this to DYK, although in all other respects it would theoretically have met the DYK criteria. Pinging Theroadislong who moved it into mainspace. Nick Moyes (talk) 23:19, 15 January 2022 (UTC)
- Hmm, I'd say to not shut this down just yet—if there's an ongoing merge proposal, we should wait and see if there is consensus to merge. If the article had been taken to AfD, we'd wait to see the result of that discussion, too. theleekycauldron (talk • contribs) (they/she) 07:48, 16 January 2022 (UTC)
- That'sa fair comment. I've posted at Talk:Hi Jolly to try to speed up gaining a consensus either way. Nick Moyes (talk) 12:24, 16 January 2022 (UTC)

Neither article is a WP:REDUNDANTFORK and
The topics are discrete subjects warranting their own articles, with each meeting the General Notability Guidelines(quoting WP:NOTMERGE.) I hope this discussion quickly closes to allow this article to go to DYK. HouseOfChange (talk) 23:49, 26 January 2022 (UTC)
- Update* Three weeks later, there are four !votes at the merge proposal: Three of these are "Do not merge." (The only merge !vote is the merge proposer.) Thanks to Theleekycauldron, whose intervention saved this DYK from being deleted on 15 January. There is no reason for this DYK to be held up any longer. The article is long enough, with good inline citations. Nice hooky hook, well-supported by sources cited. New enough when nominated. Image OK. Before acceptance, however, copyvio needs to be fixed. Earwig flags a big piece of text as close to copy-paste with Waymarking. HouseOfChange (talk) 04:37, 20 February 2022 (UTC)
- HouseOfChange, actually I'm not sure that is a problem; the text was posted to that site by the same author around the same time. See this discussion. MB 05:23, 20 February 2022 (UTC)
- @MB: The only problem is the bio section, and there is no need for that section to be so long when there is a full bio article elsewhere. DYK articles "must have a minimum of 1,500 characters of prose'; this article has 2200. The passage copied from Waymarking says "the Untied States government wanted to fund a project that would help link small communities of the west to the east using camels. On February 10, 1856, 33 camels left Indinola, Texas with Hi Jolly leading the pack. The following year, on the Beale Expedition, the U.S. government wanted to construct a wagon road across Arizona's vast desert from Fort Defiance to California. The expedition was such a success that the federal government ordered 44 additional camels to be added to the project. That same year the camel expedition failed for unknown reasons, likely due to the high costs." There is no need for any of that text in an article about the monument. You don't need to re-write the article's version, just remove it. HouseOfChange (talk) 05:40, 20 February 2022 (UTC)
I did some rewording, based in each case on the RS cited. There is no copyvio, the text is still long enough, so it is ready to go. Thanks for your patience! HouseOfChange (talk) 05:03, 21 February 2022 (UTC) Modified ALT0 to T:DYK/P7
