- ALT1 ... that Hermann Wiedemann, who appeared 196 times as Faninal in Der Rosenkavalier at the Vienna State Opera, took the role of Beckmesser in Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg in a 1937 recording from the Salzburg Festival conducted by Arturo Toscanini?
- This article is new enough and long enough. The article is neutral and I detected no copyright issues. A QPQ has been done. The problem is with the hook which tries to include too much information, plus the fact that he did not appear as Beckmesser 196 times. Would ALT1 be an acceptable substitute? - Well, I thought the comma took care of the number. If only we could just say "the legendary Toscanini recording", - that would be concise. ALT1 is a great approach, but "took" sounds a bit as if it was his activity, while it was a great honour to be the one. So trying hookiness, although I dislike to disturb chronology, and importance of roles:
- ALT2: ... that Hermann Wiedemann, the Beckmesser in Toscanini's recording of Die Meistersinger, appeared as Faninal in Der Rosenkavalier at the Vienna State Opera 196 times?
- I think we can approve ALT1 and ALT2. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 10:37, 22 November 2020 (UTC)

- @LouisAlain: When you translate text from another language Wikipedia, please mention this fact in the edit summary, as mentioned here. For example, you could use "Content in this edit is translated from the existing German Wikipedia article at de:Exact name of German article; see its history for attribution." This requirement is in addition to the excellent translation tag you regularly add to the article talk page. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 10:37, 22 November 2020 (UTC)
- LouisAlain mentions that on the talk, even citing the version translated. That is far more transparent than somewhere in an edit summary. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 10:47, 22 November 2020 (UTC)
- I prefer ALT2, because - as explained - that "took". --Gerda Arendt (talk) 10:49, 22 November 2020 (UTC)
