Helmin Wiels
[edit]- ... [Use ALT2 instead] that the recently assassinated Curaçaoan politician Helmin Wiels considered Dutch to be a dead language, much like Ancient Greek and Latin?
5x expanded by Xocoyotzin (talk). Nominated by Amberrock (talk) at 20:07, 8 May 2013 (UTC).
- Wiels was a politician that liked to make provocative, interesting statements. I don't think that means he considers that the absolute truth. This seems to me one of those occasions, where he used this as a figure of speech to indicate that the relationship with the Netherlands was not his priority (on a different topic: he was critized for saying that all white dutch should be sent back to NL in body bags… and later on Dutch television said he had never meant to say that seriously).. So a different hook -also one that is a bit less "light" in view of the political murder that happened just a week ago- would be appreciated. L.tak (talk) 21:52, 8 May 2013 (UTC)
- How about this?
- ALT1 ... that the recently assassinated Curaçaoan politician Helmin Wiels founded Pueblo Soberano and campaigned for independence from the Netherlands?
- Cheers.—♦♦ AMBER(ЯʘCK) 09:12, 9 May 2013 (UTC)
- Needs a review. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 01:04, 27 May 2013 (UTC)
- 5x expansion checks out. Article is adequately footnoted and I did not notice evidence of close paraphrasing. The original hook is sourced, but its wording isn't completely valid, as we can't verify what he really thought -- only what he said. The ALT1 hook is verified. The original hook is much more compelling than ALT1, though (and it is strongly related to his pro-independence stance), and it can be easily made suitable by simply changing it to a direct quote:
- ALT2: ... that the recently assassinated Curaçaoan politician Helmin Wiels once said "Dutch is a dead language, the same as Greek or Latin"? --Orlady (talk) 02:37, 2 June 2013 (UTC)
