Harry Brand
[edit]- ... that press agent Harry Brand had 20th Century Fox insure Betty Grable's legs (pictured) for $1 million dollars as a publicity stunt?
- ALT1:
...that press agent Harry Brand had Marilyn Monroe photographed wearing only a potato sack to divert attention from a nude calendar shoot she had done?
- ALT1:
Created by JSFarman (talk). Self-nominated at 18:12, 11 October 2015 (UTC).
- This appears misfiled as it was started on 3rd October Victuallers (talk) 23:33, 31 October 2015 (UTC) The main hook checks out (I have added a ref after the right sentence) but Alt1 is not what the ref that I read said. It says that they intended to show that nude was passe. Victuallers (talk) 23:50, 31 October 2015 (UTC)
- This was the first time I attempted a DYK nomination, and I did it incorrectly. It's a drag, because this guy was so cool! I started it during an edit-a-thon here in Los Angeles at the Margaret Herrick Library, which is affiliated with the Oscars. I had never heard of him (and I was a publicist in a former life). I'm going to expand it when I have some time; there's so much more to his story -- all kinds of Fatty Arbuckle, Buster Keaton and Marilyn history that I didn't get into. Thank you for Victuallers for taking a look at it! Julie JSFarman (talk) 01:46, 1 November 2015 (UTC)
- @JSFarman: Oh dear! You misunderstand - or more correctly Ive failed to express myself. I don't care that's its misfiled (it is) or that its possibly just a tadge too late. This is a a good article and we are going to put this on the main page with a bit of my and your help. Lets start again! Victuallers (talk) 09:18, 1 November 2015 (UTC)
- ALT2:...that press agent Harry Brand had Marilyn Monroe photographed wearing only a potato sack?
- @Victuallers: Thank you! I'm psyched. I am a full geek; I was so excited to discover Harry Brand, and even more excited to discover that there wasn't yet an article about him. I'm well-versed in writing, editing, reviewing, etc., but this is new to me. I'm going to use this article as a way to learn how to get an article to GA. It's probably inappropriate for me to be writing this here, so I'll take it to a talk page, but thank you again. Julie JSFarman (talk) 14:30, 1 November 2015 (UTC)
- So this is a quality article. The nominator is new to DYK and has broken some minor rules which we can fix (created on 3rd Oct and nommed on 11th). The article has lots of good refs including (now) ones for the hook fact sentence. Its neutral and I could spot no close paraphrasing. The image for the main hook is free and there is one of Marilyn if the alt is chosen - but she is not in a sack. I have added a ref for Alt2 too, which is a cut down of the nominators alt. I think that covers it. Victuallers (talk) 17:47, 1 November 2015 (UTC) @JSFarman:
