Harald Jäger
[edit]... that twenty-five years ago tonight, Stasi officer Harald Jäger gave the order to open the gate at his border crossing along the Berlin Wall, therefore opening up West Berlin to East German citizens for the first time since 1961?
ALT1:... that twenty-five years ago tonight, Stasi officer Harald Jäger gave the order to open his gate along the Berlin Wall, therefore opening up West Berlin to East German citizens for the first time since 1961?- ALT2 ... that on November 9, 1989, Stasi officer Harald Jäger granted free passage through the Berlin Wall for the first time since 1961?

- Comment: This can be reworded, but I would like this to run on 9 November, per it being the 25th anniversary of the wall's "fall". It's also a bit long, but I was wondering if an exception could be made due to the anniversary.
- Comment: If possible, it might not even be a bad idea to to show an image of the wall around that time. Kevin Rutherford (talk) 15:10, 16 October 2014 (UTC)

- Okay, it's bright shiny new, and long enough. The hook is properly cited, if a bit long; ALT1 comes in at 247 characters, the original hook at 266 characters. I have proposed ALT2 without changing the meaning, at 150 characters. Although not tagged as such, this is a BLP; however, it casts no aspersions on the subject. Cites are in good order; one is accepted on good faith, as it is in German. Spot checks revealed no copyright violation.
- Another editor is needed to approve/disapprove ALT2. If disapproved, recommend a shorter ALT3 hook be written. Also, recommend tagging article as BLP.Georgejdorner (talk) 20:20, 25 October 2014 (UTC)
- Sure, that works for me. Kevin Rutherford (talk) 02:09, 3 November 2014 (UTC)
- ALT3 ... that twenty-five years ago tonight, Stasi officer Harald Jäger gave the order to open the gate at his border crossing on the Berlin Wall?
- As mentioned above, this article meets DYK criteria in all respects. The original hooks were too long but were otherwise satisfactory. ALT2 is OK but I prefer ALT3, which is the original hook cut down (by me). This hook needs to run in the second slot for November 9th. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 07:09, 6 November 2014 (UTC)
- Here's a longer ALT4 (200 on the nose) that gives more info than both of the other ALTs, again taken only from the previous hooks, and I think is more hooky thereby:
- ALT4: ... that 25 years ago tonight, Stasi officer Harald Jäger gave the order to open the gate at his border crossing on the Berlin Wall, letting the first East Germans freely pass into West Berlin since 1961?
- If chosen, the promoter can decide between "freely pass" and "pass freely". BlueMoonset (talk) 15:38, 6 November 2014 (UTC)
