Hannah Slater
[edit]- ...
that Hannah Slater was the first woman to receive a United States patent?
- ALT1:... that, although some sources consider Mary Kies to be the first woman to receive a patent from the U.S. Patent Office, others claim Hannah Slater was the first?

- Well I don't know about this, because a google search turns up the names of several other women who are said to have received the first patent. You should always test alleged "firsts" with a google search before accepting them. Gatoclass (talk) 13:13, 10 August 2016 (UTC)
- Thanks, Gatoclass! I have suggested an alt hook which focuses on the dissension over "who was first" instead. MurielMary (talk) 21:41, 11 August 2016 (UTC)
- Okay, MurielMary, that looks fine except that the hook says "some sources consider Mary Kies ..." when you only have one source in the article which says that. Gatoclass (talk) 14:16, 15 August 2016 (UTC)
- This kind of "some sources" stuff reads very poorly in hooks. Is there any source discussing the question, so that we can say Slater was "one of the first"? EEng 14:22, 15 August 2016 (UTC)

@EEng: You have a point. MurielMary, maybe it's time to look for another hook. Gatoclass (talk) 18:32, 15 August 2016 (UTC)
- I am closing this nomination as rejected at this time. The nomination has sat for over a month, but as of this post the article has not been worked on for over a month, the nominator has not responded in over a month, and no new hooks have been suggested to address the concerns above.
