Interesting history, on good sources, subscription sources accepted AGF, no copyvio obvious. The image is licensed, but very pale. How about using the image of Abner, with a hook around him? - In this hook, I miss a year, and don't know if we should really replace the "Negroes" from the 1921 newspaper. How about an infobox? Thank you, Michael! I formatted the image. If you want to go with this hook, we need the source not only here but right after the sentence. (It's a silly rule, but it's a rule, and you can remove it there when DYK is over.) I'd suggest, though, that you don't focus on him, but his successful tenure, perhaps with part of the quote refusing to go north? I'd approve ALT1 if you prefer, after the formality, perhaps better with a hint at where and/or what the college is. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 06:57, 4 March 2021 (UTC)

@Gerda Arendt: Perhaps would you like to try creating an alternate hook? I'm not sure I'll be able to create an effective hook with Abner's image but content focused on the college. As an alternative, perhaps we could go back to (a modified version of) the original hook and run it without an image? Michael Barera (talk) 04:14, 5 March 2021 (UTC)

The problem is that if I write the hook, I can't also review it. We can do the following: I compose something, and then you write your wording of it or something better, and I can review. I would like to avoid having to call another reviewer because we have enough of a backlog of unreviewed nominations.
