Goat Canyon (Carrizo Gorge)
[edit]... that the Goat Canyon Trestle (pictured),the world's largest curved wooden trestle, was built over Goat Canyon?"World's largest wooden trestle is in Anza-Borrego Desert State Park", North County Times- ALT1:
... that the collapsed tunnel built into the wall of Goat Canyon (pictured), which was replaced by the Goat Canyon Trestle, was used as a break area during the trestle's construction?San Diego and Arizona Railway: The Impossible Railroad
- ALT1:
- Reviewed: Nolder
- Comment: This article is an alternate followup to the Goat Canyon Trestle article as suggested by Gerda Arendt (talk · contribs), which was recently elevated to GA, but is ineligible for DYK again due to it being on the main page on 15 March. Work was done in a sandbox on 28 and 29 March, and was recently moved to the main space as an article. Article has over 2k characters of prose, and does not have any clear copyvio errors returning at most under 6% using Earwig's tool. All sentences are cited to a reliable sources in the article. The image is utilized in the article, and was created by myself and thus free of issues. Both hooks are within the article, using sources from within the article; ALT1 is 182 characters long. My QPQ work was done for the DYK for the article Nolder, see this diff as evidence.

- Interesting, on substantial sources, no copyvio obvious. The image is licensed and a good illustration. Please mention nature first in the lead, then the trestle, and three refs for one fact are enough for me ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:55, 2 April 2018 (UTC)
- The claim for "world's largest" requires a better source. See Talk:Goat Canyon Trestle#World's largest claim for competing claims. —howcheng {chat} 21:21, 30 April 2018 (UTC)
- @Howcheng: this is already in the prep area.--RightCowLeftCoast (talk) 22:02, 30 April 2018 (UTC)
- No, it was. Reopened for better sources for that claim. Or a different hhok. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:21, 30 April 2018 (UTC)
- That's wondeful! Why don't we use the original hook then, which doesn't emphasize what someone is saying isn't verified, which is (see the talk page of the article about the trestle). This is a DYK about the canyon. And as such, it can be clearly verified that the Goat Canyon Trestle was built over Goat Canyon.--RightCowLeftCoast (talk) 22:25, 30 April 2018 (UTC)
- How about ALT1 that I provided initially? That can be verified as well.--RightCowLeftCoast (talk) 22:29, 30 April 2018 (UTC)
- I am too tired right now. Someone else can look, or I tomorrow. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:33, 30 April 2018 (UTC)

- @Howcheng, RightCowLeftCoast, and Gerda Arendt: How about the hook that was proposed at WT:DYK? The one with the piped link, it would have avoided the repetition. Narutolovehinata5 tccsdnew 01:20, 1 May 2018 (UTC)
- @Narutolovehinata5: The issue is trying to verify the claim. On the article talk page, I cited a few other sources where the claim was slightly different ... world's largest curved wooden railroad trestle, or largest curved wooden trestle in the U.S. As the saying goes, extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence. —howcheng {chat} 04:12, 1 May 2018 (UTC)
- @Howcheng, Narutolovehinata5, and Gerda Arendt: I have made the change which was requested, please see the reply on the article talk page.--RightCowLeftCoast (talk) 20:34, 1 May 2018 (UTC)
Now, we have a few hooks on DYKTALK, and something on sources on the article talk, - confusing. I still have little time. ALT1 above is complicated reading, sorry. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 10:47, 1 May 2018 (UTC)
- @Gerda Arendt: I am no longer seeing it at WP:ERRORS. If it is not to much trouble, can a link to where the discussion has moved to be provided here?--RightCowLeftCoast (talk) 20:34, 1 May 2018 (UTC)
- @Gerda Arendt: OK, I found it at Wikipedia talk:Did you know#Prep 4. I am fine with it now that I have made the change requested by Howcheng (talk · contribs) at the trestle article's talk page.--RightCowLeftCoast (talk) 20:40, 1 May 2018 (UTC)
- Fine, one step forward. I'd like the former (piped) hook back here, because it would be extra work for a prepset-builder to find it in an archive, and I'd like to here that Howcheng is pleased. - How about moving the image from the trestle article to the canyon also, because it's less pale? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:53, 1 May 2018 (UTC)
- ALT2: ...that the world's largest curved all-wood trestle (pictured) was built over Goat Canyon? "Science Channel spotlights marvel in San Diego's back yard", SDUT
- Here it is from WT:DYK.--RightCowLeftCoast (talk) 20:56, 1 May 2018 (UTC)
- For DYK purposes, I think the referencing is good now, but shouldn't the hook include the location? —howcheng {chat} 21:00, 1 May 2018 (UTC)
- @Howcheng: Thanks for catching that. I have made the change now.--RightCowLeftCoast (talk) 21:02, 1 May 2018 (UTC)
- ALT2 approved, - we only have to make curious, not say it all ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:05, 1 May 2018 (UTC)

- Hi, I came by to promote this, but for those eagle eyes over at WP:ERRORS I clarified from the source that this is the world's largest curved all-wood trestle. (I'm sure someone will find a half-and-half one out there.) I would also like to suggest substituting this much sharper and more visible image from Goat Canyon Trestle in the article and DYK nomination. Yoninah (talk) 20:28, 2 May 2018 (UTC)
- tweaked ALT2. This is the image I meant a bit above. It has to be in the bold article, per teh rulez. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:41, 2 May 2018 (UTC)
