Gene Venzke
[edit]... that Gene Venzke broke Paavo Nurmi's indoor world record in the mile run?

- Long enough, new enough, and no signs of copyright violation. However, did he beat two records (Paavo Nurmi and Joie Ray) or did he beat one shared record? If the latter, the hook should reflect that. If the former, an "s" should be added to the "record" in the article. ☯ Bonkers The Clown \(^_^)/ Nonsensical Babble ☯ 11:05, 26 May 2013 (UTC)
- In that case he beat one record, shared by Nurmi and Ray. I just mentioned Nurmi in the hook because he's an all-time great and so beating one of his records is extra-impressive; a lot more people will react to his name than Joie Ray's. If it had only been Ray's record I would have used a completely different hook, for example:
- ALT1: ... that although miler Gene Venzke ran three world records during the 1932 indoor season, he failed to qualify for the Olympics that year and only made the team four years later?
- But maybe you can think of something better. Sideways713 (talk) 14:03, 26 May 2013 (UTC)
- Need reviewer to decide whether Joie Ray needs to be added to the original hook, and to review ALT1. BlueMoonset (talk) 23:56, 8 June 2013 (UTC)
- Article is new enough and long enough. ALT1 is suitably referenced and I have struck out the original hook. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 06:30, 14 June 2013 (UTC)
