Francisco Javier García Cabeza de Vaca

[edit]

5x expanded by Raymie (talk). Self-nominated at 23:59, 29 June 2016 (UTC).

  • The five fold expansion is recent enough, the article is adequately sourced, spot checks reveal no close paraphrasing, QPQ has been done. However, while the hook is short enough and adequately sourced, the rules say that "hooks that focus unduly on negative aspects of living individuals ...should be avoided." If an alternate hook is found, I'll be happy to have another look. Valenciano (talk) 14:16, 4 July 2016 (UTC)
  • @Valenciano: That's probably fair. Let's try this...
ALT1: ... that Governor-elect of Tamaulipas Francisco Javier García Cabeza de Vaca was born in McAllen, Texas and played soccer at Houston Baptist University?
Raymie (tc) 18:24, 4 July 2016 (UTC)
Possible, but being born in a small town and playing soccer aren't the most interesting of facts, how about ALT2: ... that Governor-elect of Tamaulipas Francisco Javier García Cabeza de Vaca was the first member of his party to win the state in 86 years? Valenciano (talk) 18:32, 4 July 2016 (UTC)
The main reason I suggested that hook is that it's highly unusual for a major Mexican politician to be born in the United States (though Javier Corral was born in El Paso!). He even went to high school in McAllen. It's so unusual the SIL, the legislative information system that serves as a key bio source for information about one-time federal legislators, lists his birthplace as Reynosa. That's reasonable enough. Good to go. Valenciano (talk) 19:31, 4 July 2016 (UTC)
