Ford World Headquarters

[edit]

Ford World Headquarters

  • ... that on the evening of September 15, 2008, the office lights at Ford World Headquarters (pictured) were strategically illuminated to spell "Happy 100 GM," in honor of its chief rival's 100th anniversary?

  • Article's new, long enough, sourced. Great work 842U. It's good to go. --Captain Assassin! «TCG» 08:22, 1 August 2014 (UTC)
This is the kind of quality work that we should be featuring. Since the article has an excellent public domain image, how about adding the image and considering it for a lead position? Cbl62 (talk) 16:35, 1 August 2014 (UTC)
Yeah it should be. --Captain Assassin! «TCG» 17:09, 1 August 2014 (UTC)
  • Date request: Are we saving this hook for use on MainPage on September 15, 2014? Thanks. --PFHLai (talk) 16:31, 2 August 2014 (UTC)
Good idea. And if someone could figure out how to jigger things around to add the image, that would also be a reasonably good idea. Cbl62 (talk) 16:44, 2 August 2014 (UTC)
Didn't think of that, September's coming fast. Great idea. --Captain Assassin! «TCG» 19:25, 2 August 2014 (UTC)
  • What does "strategically illuminated" mean? Sounds like an odd choice of words to me, I'm sure it would be fine with just "were illuminated to". Other than that, looks good. --Pudeo' 05:45, 23 August 2014 (UTC)
  • @Pudeo: Yeah it's too complicated word to put in the hook, remove it then. --Captain Assassin! «TCG» 16:53, 23 August 2014 (UTC)
  • Since when is "strategically" too complicated a word? That's hilarious. Like... too difficult to look up? "Done strategically" means done with a strategy, a plan: first we, Ford, chose concise words to convey the birthday message, figured out a way to spell the words using the limited matrix of available "pixels", made sure all the bulbs were working, made sure no "dark windows" would be in use, made sure no one inadvertently cut lights on or off, got corporate approval, kept the plan sufficiently secret that it didn't leak out and ruin the "surprise" aspect, tested out the strategy. etc. The second largest automobile manufacturer in the country didn't send some guy in to flip on some lights without a plan; it was done with careful forethought. How do we know this? Both citations for the illumination say that it was executed "strategically." Like the execution of the illumination, the word choice itself was also... er.. strategic. Lol. :) 842U (talk) 17:47, 23 August 2014 (UTC)

Children, children, do not quarrel! (I love saying that.) How about

ALT1A ... that on the evening of September 15, 2008, the pattern of lights in the windows of the Ford World Headquarters (pictured) spelled out "Happy 100 GM", in honor of Ford's chief rival?
ALT1B ... that on the evening of September 15, 2008, the lights in the windows of the Ford World Headquarters (pictured) spelled out "Happy 100 GM", in honor of Ford's chief rival?

I don't suppose there's any chance of an image that actually shows the lit-up message? (I also removed italics from both hooks -- there's an argument for using italics perhaps, or quotes, but not both.) EEng (talk) 01:45, 24 August 2014 (UTC) Ping Captain Assassin!, 842U.

  • ALT1A will work then, good to go I think. Because mentioning the "pattern" is better idea, and yes picture doesn't belong here as it doesn't show the message, thanks EEng. --Captain Assassin! «TCG» 18:46, 25 August 2014 (UTC)
