Overall: This is a good little article, well cited and interesting. However, the hook is not directly cited in the article and probably because it overstates what the sources are saying. None of them AFAICS explicitly says that this is not Blackbeard's flag. However they make it clear that there is no evidence of Blackbeard using this design and I think that's what the hook should reflect. HTH. Bermicourt (talk) 18:08, 5 January 2019 (UTC)
- @Bermicourt: It is when they say it was not attributed to Blackbeard until later plus you have analysis that confirms that the details are not in keeping with piracy at the time. Not sure what AFAICS means nor HTH but if it helps, we can always add "probably" to it. The C of E God Save the Queen! (talk) 18:17, 5 January 2019 (UTC)
- How about something like this which I've tried to summarise from the slightly amended lede because the hook is supposed to be reflected pretty closely within the article. But do feel free to come up with something better:
- ALT1 ... that there is no evidence that the flag of Blackbeard (pictured) was ever used by Blackbeard himself? Source: QAR Project Bermicourt (talk) 20:27, 5 January 2019 (UTC)
- No, I don't think that quite fits the April fools brief. I have added the word probably to the original which I hope should allay your concerns @Bermicourt:. The C of E God Save the Queen! (talk) 21:15, 5 January 2019 (UTC)
- I see what you mean. Let's do it. BTW ("by the way"), AFAICS is "as far as I can see" and HTH is "hope that helps." I thought it was standard Wiki text. :) Bermicourt (talk) 21:49, 5 January 2019 (UTC)

A suggested tweak to the original hook:
ALT0a: that the bloody flag of Blackbeard (pictured) probably wasn't? Gatoclass (talk) 06:40, 27 March 2019 (UTC).
- I'm afraid I don't see anything April Foolsy about any of the alts. If I click on ALT0 to find the joke in "this is probably not the bloody flag of Blackbeard", the article only tells me that this is probably not the bloody flag of Blackbeard. Gatoclass's alt seems to be saying that it "probably wasn't the flag" ... or it "probably wasn't bloody". I think we should save ALT1 for a regular DYK image slot.
