Fishponds of the Třeboň Basin
- ... that Holy Roman Emperor Charles IV commanded the construction of fishponds "so that the kingdom would abound in fish and mist", resulting in significant expansion of the fishponds of the Třeboň Basin? Source: Conscious of the importance of conserving water and food resources, he commanded estate holders and cities to build fishponds "so that the Kingdom would abound in fish and mist." Pg 28 of the History of Aquaculture by Colin E. Nash.
ALT1:... that the fishponds of the Třeboň Basin, despite their manmade origins, have developed into a semi-natural environment and are now a wetland of international importance?Source: "Under the name of "Třeboňské rybníky" (Třeboň ponds) they make up approximately 70% ... of the ponds listed as Wetlands of International Importance according to the Ramsar Convention. Pg 8, Fishing for a Living: The Ecology and Economics of Fishponds in Central Europe
- "In spite of the fact that the ponds of the Třeboň area have been constructed by man, the considerable age of most ponds has enabled the establishment of biotopes and communities of a more or less natural character" Pg 9, Fishing for a Living: The Ecology and Economics of Fishponds in Central Europe
- ALT2:... that the fishponds of the Třeboň Basin make up approximately 70% of the ponds listed as wetlands of international importance? Hook eligibility:
- Cited: - I'm not sure that ALT1 (the part about "semi-natural environment") is supported by the cited source, but the others look ok.
- Interesting:
QPQ: None required. |
Overall: Nice to see a Czechia-related nomination here. I've reduced some of the capitalization per MOS:CAPS. I don't believe "wetlands of international importance" should be capitalized, it's not in the List of wetlands of international importance. I think ALT0 is the best hook of those offered. - Thank you for your review, and for the capitalization corrections; I've gone and decapped wetlands of international importance, as suggested. For "semi-natural environment", the source goers on to say "The intensive farming system of the last 50 years has contributed to the destruction and loss of many of these semi-natural habitats." It doesn't matter much though, as I am happy with Alt 0. BilledMammal (talk) 00:09, 29 September 2021 (UTC)
