Eddy Furniss
[edit]... that College Baseball Hall of Famer Eddy Furniss always preferred medicine to baseball?
- ALT1: ... that College Baseball Hall of Famer Eddy Furniss practices family medicine with his father?
- Reviewed: Template:Did you know nominations/Cockroach racing
5x expanded by Muboshgu (talk). Self nominated at 04:27, 8 April 2013 (UTC).
- / - Article length, 5X expansion, and general compliance with policy are confirmed. Original fact is not really supported - he clearly was always interested in medicine, but nothing concrete (in the article) to say he preferred it to baseball. ALT1 is a bit less interesting, but still good, and is confirmed by provided inline citation. We can go with that, or I'm open to a rewording of the original fact. --ThaddeusB (talk) 03:53, 20 April 2013 (UTC)
- Re: original hook: that may be one of those things that was in a reference that didn't get translated properly into the article. I did see it in a ref. In this source, he talks about his intentions to study medicine and having to be convinced that he should give college ball a shot. Let me see what I can do... – Muboshgu (talk) 17:10, 22 April 2013 (UTC)
- ALT2: ... that College Baseball Hall of Famer Eddy Furniss had to be convinced to play baseball?
- ALT3: ... that College Baseball Hall of Famer Eddy Furniss considered his success at baseball "accidental"?
- I guess I might be guilty of a little WP:SYNTH. The sources say he intended to study medicine, and that career path got sidetracked by baseball. I guess I took that to mean he preferred medicine to baseball, though perhaps he was grounded in reality, knowing the long odds of making it in baseball. I'll strike the main hook and any variation of the ALT hooks will be fine. – Muboshgu (talk) 19:05, 22 April 2013 (UTC)
- All ALTs have been verified by inline cites. My personal preference is ALT2, but all 3 are interesting, so promoter can feel free to pick. Incidentally, ref 3 ("Furniss to be inducted into Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame") is marked as subscription required, but I saw it is just fine... could be just me, but I thought you might want to know. --ThaddeusB (talk) 04:05, 23 April 2013 (UTC)
