Ebor (horse)
[edit]... that Ebor (pictured), a British Thoroughbred racehorse, won the St Leger Stakes in 1817?

- New enough, definitely long enough, no signs of copyright violation and interesting. Neigh to go. ☯ Bonkers The Clown \(^_^)/ Nonsensical Babble ☯ 08:37, 17 April 2013 (UTC)
Not an interesting hook. There is nothing even slightly unusual, surprising or interesting about a horse-race being won by a horse. That is the expected outcome, and occurs in more than 99.9% of instances of horse races. There's plenty of more interesting material in the article - a better hook is needed. --Demiurge1000 (talk) 18:46, 18 April 2013 (UTC)
ALT 1: *... that despite facing outside odds of 20/1, Ebor (pictured), a British Thoroughbred racehorse, won the St Leger Stakes in 1817?
ALT 2:*... that Ebor (pictured), a British Thoroughbred racehorse, won an unpset victory against the heavily favored Blacklock in the St Leger Stakes in 1817?
- Thanks for the feedback. Do you think either of these alternatives are a little more interesting? (By the way, what kind of animal wins the 0.1% of horse races?) TheBlueCanoe 02:17, 19 April 2013 (UTC)
- Comment While yes I agree that it is not out of the ordinary for horses to win horse races (duh), her surprise victory at the 1817 St Leger Stakes is still interesting. Interesting in the sense that it is one of those things most laymen don't know about, and not in the sense that it is unusual. We all know that golfers win golf titles, but we still find it interesting to learn that Adam Scott won this year's Masters. And as an update, I find ALT1 the best hook. Good job. Thanks for the heads up, @Demiurge Cheers, ☯ Bonkers The Clown \(^_^)/ Nonsensical Babble ☯ 08:50, 19 April 2013 (UTC)
- Which source does the 20/1 odds come from? It's not in the Sportsman.
ALT3: *... that Ebor (pictured), a British Thoroughbred racehorse, only ran in six races in his three year career, despite winning four of them?
- (ALT3 can only work if there's a source that confirms he only ran in six races) --Demiurge1000 (talk) 19:26, 19 April 2013 (UTC)
How about this...
- ALT4:... that the upset victory of Ebor (pictured) in the 1817 St Leger Stakes was ascribed to the overconfidence of Blacklock's jockey? Tigerboy1966 14:11, 20 April 2013 (UTC)
- I don't know if this would change this into a self-nom, but I'll scurry off and do a review if required. Tigerboy1966 14:11, 20 April 2013 (UTC)
- Good to go with ALT4. I've struck the other hooks to avoid confusion. --Demiurge1000 (talk) 21:10, 20 April 2013 (UTC)
