Disappearance of Toni Sharpless
- ... that after a friend told Toni Sharpless 10 years ago today that she was too drunk to drive, Sharpless threw her out of the car and has not been seen since? Source: "Johns, realizing she was the more sober of the two, grabbed Sharpless' keys, but Sharpless grabbed them back. In retrospect, Johns said she should have been more emphatic about demanding to drive, Law said ... After the two had driven less than 500 feet from the home, Sharpless demanded that Johns get out of the car, Law said. "She slammed on her brakes," Law said. "She said get out, get out, get the (expletive) out of my car." Johns got out of the vehicle -- a 2002 four-door black Pontiac Grand Prix -- but expected Sharpless to come back for her, Law said. "Obviously she didn't," Law said. Johns didn't want to go back to the party because she was embarrassed at Sharpless' behavior, and when she realized Sharpless wasn't coming back for her -- her phone went right to voicemail when she called -- Johns called her nephew and asked him to pick her up. The last known person to see Sharpless was Johns, Law said" , Delaware County Daily Times; August 22, 2010
- ALT1:... that when she disappeared 10 years ago today, Toni Sharpless had been drinking and awake for 36 hours straight? Source: "Sharpless, who has a diagnosed bipolar disorder, hadn't been taking her medication regularly and had been up for 36 hours straight" in source cited above (which also mentions the drinking).
- ALT2:... that an anonymous letter to a private detective claimed that after Toni Sharpless disappeared 10 years ago today, she was killed by a cop and the writer was hired to get rid of her car? Source: "Anonymous letter claims missing Pennsylvania woman Toni Lee Sharpless was killed by police officer in Camden", New York Daily News; January 12, 2013
- ALT3:... that shortly after Toni Sharpless was asked to leave a party at Philadelphia 76er Willie Green's house 10 years ago today, she
vanisheddisappeared? "Green went to Johns while she was in the swimming pool and said, "Your friend (Toni) is freaking out, and you both need to leave." ... Green told her that Toni had poured champagne on the kitchen floor and was kicking things. So Johns left the party with Sharpless, and shortly after, Sharpless kicked Johns out of the car." - New enough, long enough, neutrally written, well referenced, no close paraphrasing seen. QPQ done. Image in article is fair use.
- Regarding the hooks, the way ALT0 is written makes it hard to follow. I like ALT1, but I don't see the "drinking heavily" part in the source; it seems to imply that she was acting erratically because she was bipolar. ALT2 doesn't seem in the spirit of an encyclopedia. ALT3 could be okay, but she was "asked to leave", not "thrown out". Yoninah (talk) 20:01, 19 August 2019 (UTC)
- @Yoninah: Thank you for responding. I had worded the first hook both in a manner that would be succinct and reflective of your stated preference for having the subject article come early in the sentence. I will see if I can reword.
I have removed "heavily" from ALT1 and reworded ALT3 as well. Daniel Case (talk) 02:46, 20 August 2019 (UTC)
- Addendum: See amended original hook. Daniel Case (talk) 02:50, 20 August 2019 (UTC)
