I think the hook should be reworded, maybe
- ALT1: ... that the governor-general of Indonesia rejected the advice to not employ Darmawan Mangunkusumo in the colonial economic affairs department?
- ALT2: ... that the governor-general of Indonesia was advised to not employ Darmawan Mangunkusumo in the colonial economic affairs department, due to Mangunkusumo's political activities?
- ALT3: ... that Darmawan Mangunkusumo kept his colonial government job, even though the governor-general of Indonesia was advised to reject his employment?
