Danell Lynn

[edit]
  • ... that ....Danell Lynn rode 48,600 miles (78,214 km) to become the first woman to set a world record for longest motorcycle journey in a single country.  ?
  • ALT1: ... that Danell Lynn rode 48,600 miles (78,214 km) to become the first woman to set a world record for longest motorcycle journey in a single country?
  • ALT2: ... that Danell Lynn rode 48,600 miles (78,214 km) to become the first solo woman to set a world record for longest motorcycle journey in a single country?

  • Proposed ALT1 with a slight tweak to add another wikilink. - Brianhe (talk) 00:58, 27 May 2016 (UTC)
  • New enough, long enough, QPQ exempt. Neutral, cited, no copyvios/close paraphrasing detected. I'm a tad concerned about whether this meets WP:GNG. The American Motorcyclist article I assume to be significant coverage, but everything else seems to be unreliable (1, 3), first-party (4, 5, 7), or not that significant (6 by virtue of being local coverage of her due to her local roots, 8). Could you add 1–2 more sources that offer significant secondary coverage in a reliable source? Additionally, it's not clear that the motorcyclist and the fashion designer are the same person, as it appears no sources note the cross-over. How do you know those two aren't different people? The hook's short and interesting, but the source doesn't say she's the first woman to set this record, just the first solo woman. That's an easy addition if you propose a very similar ALT2. I did a few copy-edits to fix up miscellaneous small issues. Ping me when the notability and fashion designer issues have been addressed and a similar ALT is proposed, and I'll look over this again. ~ RobTalk 01:00, 28 May 2016 (UTC)
Rider magazine (source 1) is a RS IMO, though it hasn't had an article created yet. I think WP Motorcycling would agree. But more sources wouldn't hurt. – Brianhe (talk) 01:24, 28 May 2016 (UTC)
I'll ask for some folks from that WikiProject to head over here and give their opinions. I could be off-base on assessing that particular source, since I know nothing about it. I couldn't find an editorial policy on their site, but it could be lurking somewhere (or just be offline). ~ RobTalk 01:26, 28 May 2016 (UTC)
Well just so you know it's not just online, it's a print magazine. I used to have a subscription. As to the question of whether she is also a fashion designer, I think the answer is yes but we need sourcing on that. Her personal website says she was featured on NPR; the only thing I can find there matching her name involves fashion [1]. - Brianhe (talk) 01:32, 28 May 2016 (UTC)
(edit conflict) [2] makes it clear the rider and owner of dl-couture are the same person; is that sufficient? NE Ent 01:33, 28 May 2016 (UTC)
Wordpress is sketchy, but it at least satisfies me that they're the same person. I was just looking for any link, really. I'm still waiting to hear from project members on how significant of a source Rider is. Two profiles in "industry" magazines is still kind of pushing notability. I'll take a look around for coverage in general interest periodicals if I can find any. ~ RobTalk 02:54, 28 May 2016 (UTC)
The Victoria Advocate piece helps and makes this just scrape by, I think. As soon as an alt is proposed that indicates she's the first solo woman to break this record rather than the first woman, this will be good to go. ~ RobTalk 03:02, 28 May 2016 (UTC)
Responding to the request over at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Motorcycling, Rider is generally accepted as reliable, no less than Cycle World, Motorcyclist (magazine) or any other commercial enthusiast magazine. Lynn's own press page cites several other media mentions that are probably just enough to establish notability, especially when you add the Guinness record and a couple of minor awards. Press coverage for her fashion design and philanthropic work cements that she is not notably for only one event, but has had sustained coverage for several years, back to ~2008. --Dennis Bratland (talk) 03:20, 28 May 2016 (UTC)
Unfortunately I found some of the reference media (the MyPhoenix TV station, the Scottsdale magazine) don't seem to have online archives, so I wasn't about to include them in the article. NE Ent 10:02, 28 May 2016 (UTC)
  • ALT2 addresses my last remaining concern. Good to go. AGF on the offline source, if I didn't mention that already. ~ RobTalk 12:47, 28 May 2016 (UTC)
