I would go with the original hook but suggest a slight alteration to:

... that a listing on eBay led to the discovery of a new species of exquisite urchin?

It is hookier when you hide the name of the discovery. violet/riga [talk] 19:12, 21 September 2011 (UTC)
I guess its personal preference, but I'm not fond of not saying what the species or genus is in the hooks I do for extinct taxa.--Kevmin § 21:29, 21 September 2011 (UTC)
