Cody Meakin

[edit]

Created/expanded by LauraHale (talk). Self nom at 05:58, 31 July 2012 (UTC)

  • Meets all requirements, I fixed the red link in the hook. Good to go! Miyagawa (talk) 21:56, 2 August 2012 (UTC)
  • Hook is 231 characters long. It's an interesting hook, but it needs to be under 200. The revision should take care to match the article: the money was for his rehabilitation, and while the article says his classmates donated their transportation money, it does not say that they walked. It must if that's going to be The Canberra Times says that "most" of his male classmates abjured limos, cars, motorcycles, etc., and walked; APC is not so specific about "most", though they add in the dresses and heels (sounds like an all-male boarding school plus their dates), and that the money went to Meakin's rehab. An ALT1 needs to be supplied; if "walked" is retained (and should be), then it must be added to the article. BlueMoonset (talk) 16:08, 29 August 2012 (UTC)
    • ALT: that classmates of 2012 Paralympic wheelchair rugby player Cody Meakin walked to their year 12 formal, donating money saved from transportation to help cover costs related to Meakin's medical care?
  • ALT has none of the required formatting, and article was not updated to include important hook fact as noted above. Both need to be done. BlueMoonset (talk) 15:24, 3 September 2012 (UTC)
Changes made to the article to include BlueMoonset's suggestions, so the article and its source fits the hook.Maile66 (talk) 22:13, 6 September 2012 (UTC)
  • Alt 2 ... that most of 2012 Paralympic rugby player Cody Meakin's classmates walked to their prom, donating saved transportation money to his medical care?
A little shorter version of the hook. Maile66 (talk) 21:32, 6 September 2012 (UTC)
  • I don't think we should lose the actual name of the sport (wheelchair rugby), or the actual name of the school function (a "formal" in Australia is much like a "prom" in the US, but as it's an Australian hook, that country's term should be used). As long as I'm doing a revision, I might as well go whole hog, though it's expanding the scope (and length) somewhat: here's a 183-character hook that in addition to the above mentions the accident and that the money was for rehabilitation expenses.
  • ALT3: ... that most of 2012 Paralympic wheelchair rugby player Cody Meakin's classmates walked to their year 12 formal, donating saved transportation money for his post-accident rehabilitation? —BlueMoonset (talk) 22:43, 6 September 2012 (UTC)
    • We never used the term "prom". I agree with your logic, but you didn't link wheelchair rugby. Changed the linking to link to the wheelchair rugby article. I had never seen the sport played until a couple of days ago, and did not realise myself that it is only played by quads. Hawkeye7 (talk) 05:00, 7 September 2012 (UTC)
  • I didn't link "wheelchair rugby" because I copied that part of the hook from Laura's original, since it was the only one with a full link that included the Paralympics; I didn't notice that she hadn't linked the sport. I like your way better; thanks for the modification. I've struck the earlier hooks, which were either too long or missing important wikilinks. BlueMoonset (talk) 05:44, 7 September 2012 (UTC)
  • Need someone to review the ALT3 hook; Miyagawa's review can probably cover the rest. BlueMoonset (talk) 05:44, 7 September 2012 (UTC)
  • I've done some copyediting. It seems that his classmates would have spent $1000s on the transport to this one event, something that needed to be in the article, for those not familiar with the costs in attending elite Australian schools.. Secretlondon (talk) 22:51, 8 September 2012 (UTC)
  • ALT3 is short enough and cited. Article is new enough and well referenced. Image in article could be used if we want. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 04:29, 12 September 2012 (UTC)
