Christopher R. W. Nevinson
[edit]... that British war artist Christopher R. W. Nevinson was inspired to paint war after his experience in the volunteer Friends' Ambulance Unit?

- Fascinating article on excellent sources, thank you. Offline sources accepted AGF, no copyvio obvious. I confess to be not happy with the hook. The tense is somewhat wrong, because he first experienced, then painted, then became an official artist. I'm also not sure we can say "paint war". I am impressed by the quote "will probably remain the most authoritative and concentrated utterance on the war in the history of painting", - any chance to use that or part of it? Too bad we can't use any of his paintings or his photo. In the infobox, please be more specific in the "known for" parameter than "painting" or drop it. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:25, 30 January 2017 (UTC)
- Thanks. I've dropped the "known for painting", it was unnecessary. For the hook, how about:
- ALT1:
... that his experience in the volunteer Friends' Ambulance Unit inspired famous war artist Christopher R. W. Nevinson to paint war? - ALT2:
... that Christopher R. W. Nevinson's war paintings, inspired by his experience in the Friends' Ambulance Unit, are described as "the most authoritative and concentrated utterance on war in the history of painting"?Laurdecl talk 07:06, 31 January 2017 (UTC)
- We are getting closer, thank you! - I'd say which war, but understand if it's intentionally left open. I'd avoid "famous". I prefer ALT2 but it doesn't work yet because it was said about one specific painting, no? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 08:32, 31 January 2017 (UTC)
- Whoops, my bad. How about:
- ALT3:
... that Christopher R. W. Nevinson's painting La Mitrailleuse, inspired by his experience in the Friends' Ambulance Unit, is described as "the most authoritative and concentrated utterance on World War I in the history of painting"? - It seems good, but I don't want to focus too much attention on the painting, the hook should be mostly about him. - May I suggest a hook based on the Hind quote, which appears twice in the article, ? ....
- ALT4:
.... that In 1920, Christopher R. W. Nevinson was described by Charles Lewis Hind as 'among the most discussed, most successful, most promising, most admired and most hated British artists.'14GTR (talk) 11:08, 31 January 2017 (UTC)

- I like both! Here are my versions, any preference? Remember we only want to raise curiosity, not say it all. I'd prefer ALT5 as related to the war art which is something unique to him.
ALT5: ... that a painting by Christopher R. W. Nevinson has been described as "the most authoritative and concentrated utterance on World War I in the history of painting"?- ALT6: ... that Christopher R. W. - Honestly, I'm not sure, both of them are quite interesting. I'll leave it up to you to choose which you rather. Laurdecl talk 09:42, 1 February 2017 (UTC)
- both, prep builder can decide ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 10:29, 1 February 2017 (UTC)
