Prep 5 suggestion re COVID-19 pandemic in the Navajo Nation[edit]Template: Did you know nominations/COVID-19 pandemic in the Navajo Nation. @FrogginFroggy, Jayen466, and Yoninah: I looking through the preps, and noticed this hook, based on information from May 19, 2020. The source would seem to be CNN Coronavirus-us-maps-and-cases. The Navajo Nation pretty much is the Four Corners area of Arizona, New Mexico, Utah and (I think) Colorado. When I look at the current stats on the CNN map, it shows an area in Buena Vista County, Iowa that (as of today) has a per capita rate of 8,491 per 100,000 - which looks like more than any of the Navajo nation. Since CV-19 tracking is a fluid situation that varies from day to day, could we get a hook that is more flexible? — Maile (talk) 18:29, 22 June 2020 (UTC)

ALT3: ... that during the COVID-19 pandemic, as of June 11, 2020 the Navajo Nation had a higher rate of infection and a higher testing rate than any U.S. state?FrogginFroggy (talk) 00:16, 24 June 2020 (UTC)
- I think it's better to pipe the bolded link to reduce wordiness, like this:
- ALT3a:
... that as of June 11, 2020, the Navajo Nation had a higher per-capita rate of infection from COVID-19 and a higher testing rate than any U.S. state? - Also, keep in mind that this is not going to run before July 1 at the earliest, so updates are in order. Yoninah (talk) 00:23, 24 June 2020 (UTC)
- @FrogginFroggy and Yoninah: I'm OK with both of them. I added "Nation" to ALT3, which I assume you meant, because otherwise it refers to a race. Persons of Navajo heritage live in more places than what was surveyed for that testing rate. Navajo Nation refers to their reservation territory. — Maile (talk) 00:57, 24 June 2020 (UTC)

- Yoninah Strike ALT3 and just leave ALT3a?
- Maile I think so. Using "COVID-19 pandemic" as the bolded link isn't very interesting anyway. Yoninah (talk) 12:33, 24 June 2020 (UTC)

- I came by to promote this. June 11 doesn't appear in the article anymore. What's going on? Yoninah (talk) 11:17, 28 June 2020 (UTC)
- Yoninah Looking through the article history, I'm not sure if June 11 was actually in the body. It appears it was at least in the infobox, which changes the dates and figures regularly, and got updated here. — Maile (talk) 19:23, 29 June 2020 (UTC)
- @Maile66: well, the lead isn't changing, and the hook fact is there, sourced to an article from May 19. So should we change the approved hook to:
*ALT3b: ... that in May 2020, the Navajo Nation had a higher per-capita rate of infection from COVID-19 and a higher testing rate than any U.S. state? Yoninah (talk) 20:34, 29 June 2020 (UTC)

- Yoninah if you like, you can now go with ALT3a. I found sourcing and stats to back it up and have edited the article appropriately.1 — Maile (talk) 20:53, 29 June 2020 (UTC)

- Yoninah Could you just leave out the word "testing"? It's meaningless, and those two sources don't use it. How else do you find out who has the virus without testing? That's the only way doctors find out what anybody has on anything. It's all testing stats ... all over the world. — Maile (talk) 21:15, 29 June 2020 (UTC)
- Maile, I also don't like it, and I think it weighs down the hook. But that was something that Black Kite commented on in the discussion above. Personally, I think it's time to get a new hook. Yoninah (talk) 21:16, 29 June 2020 (UTC)
- ALT4: ... that as of June 11, 2020, the Navajo Nation had a larger per-capita rate of infection from COVID-19 than any U.S. state? — Maile (talk) 21:24, 29 June 2020 (UTC)
