Buster Hoover
[edit]- ... that as a Major League Baseball rookie, Buster Hoover finished second in the league batting race before his team folded in August?

- Five-fold expansion and date verified. Hook and article generally are supported by reliable sources. Spotchecking shows no evidence of copyvio/close paraphrase problems. Prose ok. Hook is catchy. There are some who suggest that the UA was not truly a major league, but most sources treat it as such. Also, some reliable sources (including baseball-reference.com) don't acknowledge Hoover's status as #2 batter, due to insufficient at bats, but the cited source does. On balance, ok. - Returned to nomination page as the hook is incorrect. It was the Union Association that folded and the implied connection in the article between the team's performance and the league shutting down is not supported by the source. Yomanganitalk 09:47, 2 September 2011 (UTC)
- Well, you're wrong. Although the Union Association did end after one season, the source clearly states that the team was financially unsuccessful and that its season ended in August after only 67 games (not a full season). It is important for people to actually read the source before rejecting a hook. - PM800 (talk) 13:00, 2 September 2011 (UTC)
- True, I apologize; that snippet was above the fold. I agree that it is important for people to actually read the source before rejecting a hook. Luckily, nobody has rejected this one. The "before his team folded in August" part of the hook has no context though; it relies on the reader knowing that this isn't a full season. Perhaps, ALT1: ... that as a Major League Baseball rookie, Buster Hoover finished second in the league batting race even though his team did not complete the season?
