• ... that Bulgaria became the sixth country in the world to send one of its citizens in space? Bulgaria, the sixth country to send a representative in space
  • ALT1:... that Bulgaria's first cosmonaut, Georgi Ivanov, failed to dock with the Salyut 6 space station after a major malfunction in his Soyuz spaceship (descent module pictured)? According to Tass, via malfunction in the "approach correction power unit" of the space capsule caused the last minute cancellation of the docking operation with the space station
  • ALT2:... that Bulgaria's first cosmonaut, Georgi Ivanov, safely returned to Earth despite a failing main engine and a damaged backup engine on his Soyuz 33 spaceship (descent module pictured)? The Proton crew aboard Salyut 6 reported flames shooting sideways from the main engine, toward the backup engine, at the time of the shutdown. The docking was called off and the Saturns made ready to return to Earth. The backup engine fired, but did not shut off at the end of the planned 188-sec burn
  • ALT3:... that Bulgaria lobbied the Soviet Union to send four Bulgarian brothers in space in 1964, but the Soviet Union declined because it lacked a large enough spacecraft ? General Zahariev asked Marshal Malinovskiy what he thought of the idea of sending Bulgarians into space, on a Soviet spacecraft. He proposed to send the four Stamenkov brothers. Not only were all of them pilots, but they were also present at that same reception. According to the book, Marshal Malinovskiy did not regard that request as serious...Secondly, at that point, the Soviet Union did not even have a spacecraft which would have been capable of taking that many people to the final frontier.

• This well-written and substantial article is a five-fold expansion and is new enough and long enough. The image cannot be used because the rules of DYK require an image to be used in the article and this one is not. The article is neutral and adheres to policy. I don't like ALT1 as written because it is spacecraft that dock and not humans! ALT0 and ALT2 look good but I find ALT3 less interesting. Tourbillon has had four DYKs, so he does not need to do a QPQ this time, but will need to do one next time. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 18:05, 25 August 2018 (UTC)
