Brod Pete
[edit]- ...
that comedian Brod Pete reasoned that he is an alien, when he failed to give the required birth certificate when attempting to run for the 2013 Philippine House of Representatives elections?
Created by PapaJeckloy (talk). Self nominated at 05:47, 20 July 2014 (UTC).
- In all seriousness, I don't understand the hook. EEng (talk) 02:49, 21 July 2014 (UTC)
- He reasoned that he is an alien or creatures that did not originated here on Earth when he failed to give his birth certificate, it is something weird that's why i added it, it will have many hits because of it's weirdness. -PAPAJECKLOY (hearthrob! kiss me! <3) (talk) 10:09, 21 July 2014 (UTC).
- Um, are you sure he didn't just mean that he's a non-citizen? That's a more natural assumption in the context of an election. EEng (talk) 18:06, 21 July 2014 (UTC)
- As phrased the hook makes no sense anyway. Someone does not usually "reason" as a result of simply doing something, they "reason" when they make a decision or articulate an opinion. Why is "alien" in italics anyway? And looking at the article... how is "alien" an abbreviation? I think this article needs to be copyedited before it can be listed. —/Mendaliv/2¢/Δ's/ 15:12, 22 July 2014 (UTC)
- Maybe reasoned means explained. Anyway, I want to put this as gently as I can, but the English in the article really needs attention, as M already said. EEng (talk) 15:43, 22 July 2014 (UTC)
- Alien is his abbreviation or commonly used word, he always said it for joke, he used it since he failed to do it, because he's a comedian. about the italic i have removed the italics on the alien text, the grammar now is fixed, check it -PAPAJECKLOY (hearthrob! kiss me! <3) (talk) 11:30, 23 July 2014 (UTC).
- I'm sorry i have removed the abbreviation word on the article, i have changed it to his commonly used word, alien. I don't know that its the term used for shortening words, as i said he is always saying it since he failed to do it, and he's a comedian take a note of it. Reason is the right term of it he reasoned to the media that he is an alien.-PAPAJECKLOY (hearthrob! kiss me! <3) (talk) 11:34, 23 July 2014 (UTC).

- Yes, that's the point, i have removed the tag and rewrited and rephrased the whole article and the grammar is now fixed. -PAPAJECKLOY (hearthrob! kiss me! <3) (talk) 10:27, 24 July 2014 (UTC).
- There are still basic grammatical errors, such as use of incorrect prepositions. I'm also growing concerned with the hook, which I think might be overstating what actually took place. The source cited for the claim that his candidacy was rejected doesn't even indicate that he ran at all, just that he was unable to run, and that his failure to produce a birth certificate (on the grounds that he's an alien) was the reason. The same source suggests the candidacy has become something of an urban legend. Even if the hook sourcing was good, I'd be concerned that most readers would misunderstand the meaning of "alien" in this context: that is, assuming it means foreign rather than extra-terrestrial. There are other basic errors with this article as well, such as duplicated citations and use of unreliable sources (the YouTube video, which I believe is also a copyright violation; we can't link to such things). —/Mendaliv/2¢/Δ's/ 13:12, 24 July 2014 (UTC)
- Just to clear up this "alien" issue in the hook, it's actually Brod Pete's catchphrase. He hosts a segment in a sitcom here in the Philippines where he spoofs a religious TV show and he says "alien" instead of "amen". In the interview to him indicated in the article, he used the word "alien" and made it look like it has double meaning: his association with the word, given his comedic work as previously mentioned, and the definition of the word in legal terms. The hook will definitely be misunderstood or may confuse readers especially if they aren't familiar with Philippine pop culture, unless clear explanations and reliable sources will be added to the nominated article. -WayKurat (talk) 12:16, 25 July 2014 (UTC)
- Looks like it is now getting out of hand, for this to be finished, let's just add an alternate hook.-PAPAJECKLOY (hearthrob! kiss me! <3) (talk) 09:09, 27 July 2014 (UTC)

ALT2:... that comedian Brod Pete got his popular catchprase, alien, when he misspelled I.T Expert to E.T on his Facebook fanpage, that means extra-terrestrial?
- ALT2 is : hook is not in article at all. There are still serious grammatical issues with this article that have not been resolved. —/Mendaliv/2¢/Δ's/ 13:01, 27 July 2014 (UTC)
- Here's a more accurate alternate hook, by the way, i have fixed the grammar errors on the article - PAPAJECKLOY (hearthrob! kiss me! <3) (talk) 14:27, 27 July 2014 (UTC)
ALT3:... that comedian Brod Pete wrote a segment on Bubble Gang that is a parody of a popular religious program, Ang Dating Daan, interpreting fairy tales and children's literature instead of religious scriptures?
- ALT3 is too long (206 characters). There are also ongoing grammatical problems in both the article and these hooks. Perhaps I'm being too picky. Therefore, new reviewer requested. —/Mendaliv/2¢/Δ's/ 13:40, 28 July 2014 (UTC)
- ALT4:...
that Brod Pete wrote a segment on Bubble Gang that is a parody of a popular religious program, Ang Dating Daan, interpreting fairy tales and children's literature instead of religious scriptures?
- ALT4:...
More accurate version, less than 200 this time, and please Mendaliv please state where are the errors, you are just saying it, it's like accusing someone without evidence.-PAPAJECKLOY (hearthrob! kiss me! <3) (talk) 15:52, 28 July 2014 (UTC).
- Honestly, there are errors that are obvious to me just skimming the article; it needs a copyediting by a third party at the very least. If I were to go through the trouble of listing them all, I might as well just fix them. I haven't the time for that right now. Therefore, I'm just going to go with my earlier recommendation: New reviewer needed. —/Mendaliv/2¢/Δ's/ 16:26, 28 July 2014 (UTC)
- Grammar is now fixed ,for the new reviewer check it, everything should be fine now. -PAPAJECKLOY (hearthrob! kiss me! <3) (talk) 11:12, 30 July 2014 (UTC)
I'm going to try to save this hook:
- ALT5:
... that Brod Pete's parody of the popular religious program Ang Dating Daan interprets fairy tales and children's literature instead of religious scriptures?
- ALT5:
EEng (talk) 17:43, 30 July 2014 (UTC)
- ALT5 is fine with me, nice EEng. -PAPAJECKLOY (hearthrob! kiss me! <3) (talk) 08:09, 31 July 2014 (UTC).
- Given that this was Gelkia31's second Wikipedia edit ever, at least using that account, I originally thought it would be a good idea if an experienced DYK reviewer were to check and confirm that all the issues had been addressed. Having skimmed the article as it is now, I'm going to go further and say that the text still needs a good copyedit, and by someone other than PapaJeckloy, since it's clear that he has problems seeing the issues with his own writing. BlueMoonset (talk) 22:54, 11 August 2014 (UTC)
- I have copyedited the article majorly, please check it BlueMoonSet, if there is any remaining problems, Thanks by the way, if there is any problems, kindly mentioned it so i can fix it. -PAPAJECKLOY (hearthrob! kiss me! <3) (talk) 11:47, 14 August 2014 (UTC)
- PapaJeckloy, you made a minor change to the intro, a fairly big change in one other paragraph (but it's still one long run-on sentence with several ideas), and a couple of tiny changes later on. I strongly recommend that you find someone else to do a copyedit—perhaps the Guild of Copy Editors could help—because you've stated six times that you have fixed all the grammatical errors in the article, and it's still not ready. I've made a few edits to the intro and elsewhere to show where some of the issues remained, but it's far from comprehensive and there's a lot more that still needs to be done. BlueMoonset (talk) 02:01, 18 August 2014 (UTC)
- @BlueMoonset, the copyedit is now finished, a user in the Guild of Copy Editors majorly copyedited it now, please kindly check if it has any problems. --PAPAJECKLOY (hearthrob! kiss me! <3) (talk) 12:23, 24 August 2014 (UTC).

- Full review needed by new reviewer now that the article has received a GOCE copyedit; ALT5 is the only remaining hook, and should be checked in the usual way. BlueMoonset (talk) 05:46, 26 August 2014 (UTC)
- New enough, long enough, adequately referenced, no close paraphrasing seen. The article has been copyedited satisfactorily. I did some more editing, wikifying, and reference formatting to bring everything up to snuff.
- However, there are a few lingering issues. One is the source for the ALT5 hook. Where is it? If it's in footnote 7, that source is a dead link. Under Ang Dating Doon, end of first paragraph, you cannot cite a YouTube video as verification for a running gag; that borders on original research. In the second paragraph, none of the information being cited can be found in Footnote 6; here again, I'm not sure why you're citing the YouTube video as a source. Under Celebrity Bluff, I don't see any of the information in the paragraph in Footnote 9. Also, what is a "gangnam"?
- Regarding the page name: Is Brod Pete the only character that Salvador has ever and will ever play? On Celebrity Bluff, does he also appear under the name Brod Pete? It seems to me that the page should be retitled Herman Salvador or Isko Salvador with a redirect from Brod Pete. Yoninah (talk) 14:44, 28 August 2014 (UTC)
- It turns out that this actor had a long performing history before introducing his Brod Pete character. On Internet Movie Database and other sources, he is listed as Isko Salvador, so I moved the page to there and made Brod Pete a redirect.
- After the nominator addresses the points in my review, above, I suggest revising the hook with rewritten information verified by Footnote 6:
- ALT6: ... that Brod Pete's parody of a popular Philippine religious program found him and his fellow "televangelists" quoting fairy tales and nursery rhymes instead of religious scriptures? Yoninah (talk) 20:33, 28 August 2014 (UTC)
- Note: I have updated the DYKnompage and DYKmake templates here to reflect the move to Isko Salvador. (That's all that needs to be done; the actual template should not be moved.) BlueMoonset (talk) 17:06, 29 August 2014 (UTC)
- I will fix this article and i will do all the problems when my sock investigation is finished. --PAPAJECKLOY (hearthrob! kiss me! <3) (talk) 09:17, 31 August 2014 (UTC)
- I have removed the deadlink, the cite 6 says Brod Pete is a recuperation of the tele-evangelist Eliseo Soriano of Ang Dating Doon, which was a staple for Philippine television in the late ’90s. It was the much-awaited segment of Bubble Gang, the top-rating gag show on GMA 7. Together with Brother Willie (Cesar Cosme) and Brother Jocel (Chito Francisco), the zany Brod Pete reinvented nursery rhymes, folk songs and even finger plays as their irreverent gospel. Their make-believe flock will ask the question: “May nasusulat po ba…” which Brod Pete will answer with a kabulastugan (inanity) culled from the juvenile ditty. The Voltes V theme used for the intro music was the cue for the studio and TV audience to brace themselves for a fanatical chanting of “alien” (instead of “amen”). With two sidekicks (actually his co-writers), Brod Pete poked fun at the folk religiosity of the Pinoy by answering random questions thrown by the studio audience, quoting from the children’s verses as if they were Biblical passages. The gag was a monster hit, so that a live performance was staged at the Araneta Coliseum no less, using the rah-rah refrain Raise the Roof as concert title.
- I really think the hook is supported by this statement, as you can see, Moving the page is fine for me, Thanks for your contributions BlueMoonset and Yoninah, I also added a reference on the statement where i cited a YouTube Video that is supported, Gangnam is his character on Celebrity Bluff, i think i have fixed all the problems that is needed to be addressed, please kindly check it again @Yoninah if there are problems left. -PAPAJECKLOY (hearthrob! kiss me! <3) (talk) 09:30, 31 August 2014 (UTC)
- The hook is now verified by The Philippine Star article (footnote 5), and is cited inline. As I mentioned, YouTube videos are not considered reliable sources, so I removed it. I also removed a dead link as well as some other links that did not support the information in the article, including the source you mentioned in your last comment (formerly Footnote 6). We are holding now with three paragraphs that have no citations at all (per DYK rules, there needs to be at least one cite per paragraph). I'd also like to mention that Salvador has a long film career besides his television comedy work, and a paragraph about some of his films would be nice. Yoninah (talk) 14:33, 31 August 2014 (UTC)
- Rephrased and fixed some statements on the paragraph with cn tag, and added citation with them three (all), so it's now fixed (References and footnotes problem), I have also added other films and television appearances statements on the article, so i think everything is fixed now. -PAPAJECKLOY (hearthrob! kiss me! <3) (talk) 09:02, 1 September 2014 (UTC)
- Everything looks in order now. New enough, long enough, adequately referenced, no close paraphrasing seen. ALT6 hook ref verified and cited inline. The page creator has less than 5 DYKs, so no QPQ needed. However, since I wrote ALT6, another reviewer needs to sign off on this. Thanks, Yoninah (talk) 11:31, 1 September 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks for the review and for your cooperation, @Yoninah, i must wait for a new reviewer. -PAPAJECKLOY (hearthrob! kiss me! <3) (talk) 13:26, 1 September 2014 (UTC)
Given the nominator has been indefinitely blocked for socking on DYK, should this be closed? —/Mendaliv/2¢/Δ's/ 16:44, 2 September 2014 (UTC)
- Agree that this should be closed, as much because he attempted to employ his sock Gelkia31 to approve his own nomination. That sort of deception is simply unacceptable. Apologies to Yoninah, who has worked so hard to get this in shape, and the GOCE editor as well. BlueMoonset (talk) 19:09, 2 September 2014 (UTC)
