  • ... that the bedding ceremony (pictured) symbolised the involvement of family, friends and neighbours in the newlyweds' sexual intimacy, but also had legal importance in parts of Western Europe?
"The bedding ceremony symbolised the community's investment in the couple's union and particularly sexual intimacy." Bailey (2017)
"In Icelandic laws, by contrast, the bedding, witnessed by at least six men, was one of the constituing elements of a valid marriage." Korpiola (2009)
    • ALT1:... that, even when not legally required, the bedding ceremony (pictured) was so important that some newlyweds invited neighbours over to see them in bed?
"Such accounts of bedding rituals... suggest that it was a relatively unstructured affair, the key feature of which was that the couple were witnessed lying in bed together." Bailey (2017)
"They then called a neighbour to witness them in bed together..." Bailey (2017)

  • Very well done! Article was created from scratch by Surtsicna on July 4–5. It's quite long enough, well-written and well-sourced. (Tastefully-written, even.) Most of the books cited can be previewed on Google Books and confirm the facts given. The hook is supported by the quotation given, which can be found online here, as well as various other places in these books. It's 190 characters. The article body stands up to careful fact-checking and seems to reflect scrupulously the sources. The quid-pro-quo is done. The image is great and would be a very good one to use. This is good to go. groupuscule (talk) 21:31, 11 July 2017 (UTC)
Thank you, groupuscule! I was not sure which of the two images to nominate. It is good to know that I chose well... and that I managed to write tastefully :) Surtsicna (talk) 21:54, 11 July 2017 (UTC)
