Anna Rüling
[edit]- ... that Anna Rüling, "the first lesbian activist" and one of the first women to publicly declare her homosexuality, believed that lesbians were more suited to careers than straight women?
- ALT1:... that "the first lesbian activist", and one of the first women to publicly declare her homosexuality, in 1904, was the right-wing journalist Anna Rüling?
- Reviewed: Sir Mark Palmer, 5th Baronet
- Comment: I've just realised that I created this article on the subject's birthday. Perhaps the hook could be saved for 9 October instead (the 110th anniversary of her speech)?
Created by Surtsicna (talk). Self nominated at 19:19, 15 August 2014 (UTC).
- New enough (created 15 August) long enough (3,853 characters), fully referenced. QPQ done. Fair use image cannot be used on DYK. Hook is not supported by the article. I know it says it in the lead, but it needs to be in the body. With an reference. Hawkeye7 (talk) 20:43, 18 August 2014 (UTC)
- Silly me. After so many DYKs, I should know better. I've fixed the embarassing problem. The image, however, should be free - at least that's what I was told at Wikimedia Commons. I made the mistake of uploading the images with the same name, so the one marked as fair usage overrides the one from the Commons. Surtsicna (talk) 21:49, 18 August 2014 (UTC)
- It turns out that the photograph is not free after all, so I've removed it from the hook. Surtsicna (talk) 15:12, 21 August 2014 (UTC)
- Sorry, but no way. The idea of identifying "the first woman to publicly declare her homosexuality" is ridiculous. Really? In all places at all times?? Are you kidding??? EEng (talk) 04:59, 19 August 2014 (UTC)
- No, I am not kidding. When I'm kidding, that's usually obvious enough. Since the claim seems to revolve around the terminology she used (and a rose by any other name would smell as sweet), perhaps it would be better to describe her as the first known lesbian activist? I'll amend the hooks accordingly. Surtsicna (talk) 12:59, 19 August 2014 (UTC)
- Still have some concerns, which I'll take to the article talk page. Hawkeye7 (talk) 20:50, 22 August 2014 (UTC)
- I think I see what your concerns may be. How about we put "the first lesbian activist" under quotation marks? Since it's [part of] an appositive, it should work fine, I think. Surtsicna (talk) 22:18, 22 August 2014 (UTC)
