Ancient Greek mercenaries
[edit]- ... that the first Ancient Greeks to settle in Egypt were mercenaries? Source: Herodotus (translated 1954 by Sélincourt), p. 191, Book Two.

- Hi Izzat Kutebar. This is going to need some work to get it ready to be a show piece on Wikipedia's main page. Just on a skim:
- The lead should be a summary of the article. This lead has quite a lot of information which is not in the article.
- Much of the article is sourced from The Spectator. I am not doubting this as a RS, but this is an opinion piece drawing parallels with IS. I don't feel that this is a secure source for the article and it is the only one you cite in the body of the article. What it needs is academic secondary sources, such as all of the other, non-primary, sources you cite.
- The first section of the article is not cited at all.
- There are some other issues, but these are the high lights, if you want to work on these then I can hold the nomination for a short period.

- Hello, @Gog the Mild: you are quite right. The article at present is little more than a stub and I'm actually building it in my sandbox. It will take quite a while before it has any real substance because, for the moment, I'm exploring to see what is out there. Must admit I've introduced The Spectator piece before anything else which in its way shows how I'm currently moving from source to source.
- On balance, I think it would be best to forget this hook for the present, until the article is more fully developed. It has been useful for me to get involved and find out how the DYK process works. I'm impressed and I will be back. Thanks very much for some good feedback. All the best.
