American paddlefish

[edit]

American paddlefish, Polyodon spathula

  • ... that the planktivorous American paddlefish (pictured) is a primitive fish, and the only living species of its kind?
  • ALT1:... that the elongated rostrum of the planktivorous American paddlefish (pictured) is used like an antennae to locate swarms of zooplankton?
  • Reviewed: This is only my 2nd DYK nomination, so I'm not eligible to begin reviewing.

Improved to Good Article status by Atsme (talk). Self nominated at 04:10, 5 September 2014 (UTC).

  • Please clarify the copyright status of this image. According to its file the author is Earthwave Society. There is no evidence that Earthwave Society has released the image with a wikipedia-compatible license. Materialscientist (talk) 04:35, 5 September 2014 (UTC)
  • Earthwave Society granted blanket permission to Atsme under a CC BY-SA 3.0 [2] license, and submitted same in an email to permissions dated June 29, 2014. Permissions acknowledged the license, and offered to design a tag for my Commons site. Also, there is a CC BY-SA 3.0 license on the main page of the earthwave.org website that grants use of their images. AtsmeConsult 05:13, 5 September 2014 (UTC)
  • Great, but this is not obvious to anyone visiting the image file. Please learn how to code links on wikipedia, and link File:Paddlefish underwater.jpeg to the permissions you mentioned above. Fix link to the Commons image, if exists (I couldn't find it, in a few second search). Materialscientist (talk) 05:21, 5 September 2014 (UTC)

Picture licensing issues have been clarified. I'm attaching a free public domain file available on Wikimedia Commons from USFWS.

The article looks good, with GA status on Septmeber 5th. You might want to, just for the sake of explicit or even redundant clarity, add a reference to the sentence in the article "American paddlefish are the only living species in the genus Polyodon." This is only my third or fourth review, so maybe ask another reviewer to confirm, but looks good to me! Gaff ταλκ 20:31, 2 October 2014 (UTC)
