[edit]... that when not absent, the volva of the Amanita eliae (pictured) is covered in small, white warts?

- QPQ done. New enough and long enough at the time of nomination. Article fully supported by inline citations. Article prose could be improved but meh. Hooked fact found in article and supported by sources. Article is neutral enough. Hook is properly done. Image has an acceptable copyright for front page.
- Offline sources support text and not plagiarised. Important as hooked fact comes from offline sources. --LauraHale (talk) 23:06, 26 July 2012 (UTC)
Good to go. --LauraHale (talk) 23:06, 26 July 2012 (UTC)
- Concerns were raised in WT:DYK by Sasata about this article's use of sourced material, so it is being withdrawn from the prep area at this time. Note that the original hook had been modified as follows (I'm striking the original hook for that reason):
- ALT1: ... that when not absent, the volva of the poisonous Amanita eliae mushroom is covered in small white warts? —BlueMoonset (talk) 18:18, 27 July 2012 (UTC)
- Major problems with this article:
- the statements ascribed to reference #1 (Barla 1888) cannot be; this source is merely a picture of the species
- source #2 (Jordan 2004) has been cited incorrectly; for example, Jordan gives the cap diameter as 5–10 cm, while the article (citing Jordan) gives 8–15 cm
- I have my doubts about the Polish-language source (ref #3); why does simple descriptive material need to be sourced to a 60-year old source in another language? Does the author actually have the source and can they read Polish? Similar concerns about the Hungarian language source (#8).
- one of the major sources used in the article, "The mushrooms of Europe" by Jordan (2001), does not actually exist. The "RET" is telling though, and confirms that some material was sourced from R.E. Tulloss's Amanita website without proper attribution.
- Lastly, the hook is not quite correct. It's not that the volva is covered with warts, but rather, the volva is present as warts. An important distinction.
- There's other problems too (which I can list if desired), but these should suffice to show that the article is not ready for the main page. Sasata (talk) 19:25, 27 July 2012 (UTC)
