Source: Ketika bandar Malaka diduduki oleh Portugis pada tahun 1511, pedagang Melayu mengalihkan kegiatan perdagangan mereka di berbagai bandar niaga bagian timur, termasuk banda rniaga di pesisir barat jazirah selatan pulau Sulawesi, seperti Siang, Bacukiki, Suppa, Tallo dan Somba Opu. Pada abad ke-16 Masehi, perdagangan di Siang dan Suppa telah berkembang dengan pesat jauh sebelum Makassar muncul... (Muhaeminah & Makmur 2015). Note: Suppa and Bacukiki are ports in Ajatappareng.
