Afropolonia
[edit]- ... that the mite Afropolonia tgifi initially had its species description rejected for naming the specific epithet after the saying TGIF (Thank God it's Friday)? Source: "At the time Evenhuis was naming Phtheria relativitae, the voluntary code of behavior in the nomenclature rules disparaged humorous names, so he realized that a vigilant journal might reject his choice. In fact, one of Evenhuis' colleagues, Lee Goff, had just had a paper rejected by the Journal of Medical Entomology because he proposed naming a new chigger Trombicula tgifi. Goff next submitted his work to a Belgian journal, which did publish it. Coff suspected that the European reviewers hadn't recognized the American end-of-the-week expletive, TGIF." doi:10.2307/3981700
- ALT1:... that the species description for the mite Afropolonia tgifi was likely only approved because the journal's editors were unfamiliar with the expression TGIF (Thank God it's Friday)? Source: ibid.
- ALT2:... that the species description for the mite Afropolonia tgifi had to be published in a Belgian journal, whose editors were unfamiliar with the term TGIF (Thank God it's Friday)? Source: ibid.
- ALT3:... that the specific epithet of the mite Afropolonia tgifi comes from the acronym TGIF (Thank God it's Friday)? Source: ibid.
