Aeluropus lagopoides

[edit]
  • ... that Aeluropus lagopoides is unusual among salt-tolerant plants in having glands which can secrete salt?

Interesting article, with no copy violation. QPQ done. A new article within 7 days, neutral and well-cited, but I am afraid the DYK fact is not only completely wrong, but neither is it mentioned as being 'unusual' in the text. There really is nothing unusual about halophytes secreting salt from glands see this link, this link and this link. I do accept that the cited publication by Khan et al does suggest only a limited number of halophytes can secrete salt through cells, I think a Google search easily shows overwhelming academic evidence to suggest otherwise. Either way, this statement is not clear in the article, so a different angle to this DYK is needed. Parkywiki (talk) 02:34, 29 February 2016 (UTC)

@Parkywiki: Good point, seemingly not an unusual strategy. How about these Cwmhiraeth (talk) 06:28, 29 February 2016 (UTC)
  • ALT1 ... that Aeluropus lagopoides is preferentially grazed by animals because its tissues do not accumulate salt?
  • ALT2 ... that seeds of Aeluropus lagopoides can germinate at concentrations of salt equivalent to sea water?
  • ALT3 ... that seeds of the grass, Aeluropus lagopoides, can germinate at concentrations of salt roughly equivalent to that of sea water?
A very quick reply: I like ALT2 a lot. I'll check and respond in full later - I must go to work now!. Parkywiki (talk) 08:58, 29 February 2016 (UTC)
OK, so I've struck out ALT1 as I think it would be misleading without further clarication about under what circumstances it would be preferentially grazed, which would make the DYK far too long.
I felt I needed to make a slight alteration to the ALT2 hook, and to the content of the article itself. So my replacement, ALT3, now reflects close comparability with the salinity of sea water, rather than direct equivalence. But I think this now works more truthfully, and without losing any impact, so the DYK is Good to go. Parkywiki (talk) 15:31, 29 February 2016 (UTC)
