Adoration of the Shepherds (Cariani)
[edit]- ... that the Adoration of the Shepherds by Giovanni Cariani (c. 1515-17) seems to have been started as a Rest on the Flight into Egypt before the subject was changed by adding shepherds? Source: "John Shearman suggested that the painting began life as a ‘Rest on the Flight into Egypt’, to which shepherds were later added. This would explain the hillside setting, which is most unusual for an Adoration,..." per the Royal Collection page

- Comment: Hoping to get this Christmassy image on MP for the 25th, so a quick review would be very helpful!
