Overall: Looking great! Well sourced and detailed. I suggest moving some of the sources out of the lead and into the article (the lead shouldn't have any references, and all content should be found in the body of the article), but I don't see this as a barrier to nomination. @Legoktm and Prosperosity: I'm not sure I want to repeat the claims of union organizers in an ongoing strike; WP:DYK#gen4a notes that Articles and hooks that... or promote one side of an ongoing dispute should be avoided. (emphasis in original) I know we're attributing, but I imagine it'd be rather bad optics regardless. theleekycauldron (talk • contribs) (she/her) 09:50, 26 November 2022 (UTC)
- @Theleekycauldron and Prosperosity: I considered that, but this is also the lead for most of the major news coverage of the strike: Politico, WaPo, NYT...so I feel less concerned that it's promoting one side. In any case, here are some more possible hooks in order of preference, though I still prefer the original.
  - ALT1 ... that unions and the University of California have been negotiating since Spring 2021, but have been unable to agree on a contract leading to a strike by academic workers ? Source: LA Times
  - ALT2 ... that a strike by University of California academic workers is the largest of the year in the United States so far? Source: LA Times
  - ALT3 ... that some professors have cancelled classes in solidarity with the 2022 University of California academic workers' strike? Source: EdSource

      - That's a fair point! ALT2 preferred, unless while in the queue a different strike is now the largest. Otherwise ALT4 is good to use (ALT3 has the same issue as ALT2, and ALT1 is on the long side). --Prosperosity (talk) 19:19, 30 November 2022 (UTC)
        I'm going to promote ALT4, but wanted to leave this note to explain why. ALT2 has a problem vis-a-vis WP:DYK#Content: The hook should refer to established facts that are unlikely to change. -- RoySmith (talk) 20:41, 30 November 2022 (UTC)
