2021 New York City Marathon

  • Reviewed: Template:Did you know nominations/2021 Turkish floods
  • Comment: Date request: November 7 (day of race)- I know this is over six weeks away, I can ask at WT:DYK for an exemption to date request rules. I will work on article as more information becomes available- e.g. for some reason, the women's field has been named, but the men's field has not yet, so will add them when it is known

Hook eligibility:

  • Cited: Yes
  • Interesting: Yes
  • Other problems: No - Needs to be re-written. Should probably read "is slated to feature", since it is not a guarantee that any these athletes will not withdraw. Also would need rephrasing if the special request to feature it on DYK for November 7 is not approved.
QPQ: Done.

Overall: Will be willing to approve this myself once phrasing is sorted. I recommend is that the "today" phrasing be removed for now, and only reverted to if the request to be featured on November 7 is approved. Also, strongly suggested rewording to "is slated to feature" in both proposed hooks. I also worry that if we wait until November 7, there is also a chance that one or both of these hooks could be untrue/outdated depending on whether any of the athletes in question withdraw. Is it possible for you to create a third fallback hook proposal that will not be as subject to a possible change in accuracy? SecretName101 (talk) 18:43, 23 August 2021 (UTC)

  • SecretName101 Thank you for the review. I have added ALT2 and ALT3, which are versions of ALT0 and ALT1 without "today" and changed to "expected to". I have added an ALT4 as requested, which is about the most interesting definite about the race right now, so hopefully that's good enough as a "backup" hook (if the others become untrue due to race drop-outs). The 33,000 number was approved by the local authorities, so I don't expect it to change. Joseph2302 (talk) 09:40, 24 August 2021 (UTC)

@Joseph2302: Is there a different procedure of how I proceed next, due to your pending special occasion hold request for this? SecretName101 (talk) 14:39, 24 August 2021 (UTC)

The bot will move the nom to the approved hooks page (same as usual). I'll post at WT:DYK about the date request (as it's outside of the normal process of nominating within 6 weeks of the date), will do in next day or 2. If date request is accepted, then someone will manually move it to the special request holding area (which is at the bottom of the approved nominations page). Shouldn't be anything else for you to do. Joseph2302 (talk) 16:03, 24 August 2021 (UTC)
