Template:Closed-open/doc
This is a documentation subpage for Template:Closed-open. It may contain usage information, categories and other content that is not part of the original template page. |
The closed-open template wraps its argument in a left square bracket, right round bracket. These are used to delimit a closed-open interval in mathematics, that is one which includes the start point but does not include the end point.
The template uses {{math}} to ensure there is no line break in the expression and Greek characters look better. It should only be used on its own in text and not within a {{math}} template.
Open-closed and closed-open intervals are liable to be misunderstood and 'fixed' to use round brackets on either side. Use of these templates should warn editors that what is there is what is meant and point to the meaning.
Usage
[edit]Use this to wrap a closed-open interval. For example:
Values in the range {{closed-open|0, 2π}} are obtained by adding 2π if the value is negative.
produces:
Values in the range [0, 2π) are obtained by adding 2π if the value is negative.
