This is a route-map template for a UK railway.
- For a key to symbols, see {{railway line legend}}.
- For information on using this template, see Template:Routemap.
- For pictograms used, see Commons:BSicon/Catalogue.
Note: Per consensus and convention, most route-map templates are used in a single article in order to separate their complex and fragile syntax from normal article wikitext. See these discussions [1],[2] for more information.
This map shows the proposed MetroWest network in Bristol, connecting with North East Somerset, Gloucestershire and Wiltshire. It includes the following phases of the network:
Phase 1: Portishead, Severn Beach and Bath Spa to Bristol
- The Portishead Railway, extant from Parson Street to Pill and reopening to a new Portishead station. Ashton Gate is subject to a separate proposal for reopening, serving the nearby stadium of the same name. The line would have an hourly service from Bristol Temple Meads.
- The Severn Beach line from Severn Beach to Bristol Temple Meads. A new station will be built at Portway providing an alternative link from the Park and Ride. The line would have a half-hourly service from Bristol Temple Meads to Avonmouth, and hourly to Severn Beach.
- The Great Western Main Line from Bristol Temple Meads to Bath Spa. Saltford station could be reopened under a separate proposal. The line would have a half-hourly service from Bristol Temple Meads.
Note: It is unclear whether the proposal is for through services from Severn Beach to Bath Spa, and whether Westbury is part of the proposal or merely mentioned as a connection available from Bath Spa. The lines are shown separately here, and Westbury is included in the network.
Phase 2: Henbury spur and Bristol to Yate and Gloucester
- Reopening stations on the Henbury Loop from the Filton diamond to Henbury, with a new station at North Filton and reopening Ashley Hill as Ashley Down. The line would have an hourly service from Bristol Temple Meads.
- The Cross Country Route from Bristol Temple Meads to Yate and Gloucester. Charfield station could be reopened under a separate proposal. The line would have a half-hourly service from Bristol Temple Meads.
Mainline services to Weston-super-Mare and Pilning
Also shown are two main lines that enjoy regular services to Bristol and have been promoted as part of the MetroWest proposal, but are not specifically affected by it:
- The Bristol–Exeter line from Weston-super-Mare to Parson Street.
- The South Wales Main Line from Pilning to the Filton diamond.
