Template:Alt

This is a (possibly ill-advised or ill-implemented) template that enables alt text for arbitrary wiki entities (text, markup, etc); rendering the underlying entity otherwise unselectable, as well. It is a generalized form of image alt-text, that may be used for arbitrary wiki content.
This is rarely useful, for obvious reasons: when someone selects text on the wiki they generally want to know what they're getting, instead of being shown one thing and getting another. So far the only use this author has found for the template (and thus the only example proffered by this page) is {{alt|{{smallsup|ū}}|ᵘ̄ }} → ‹See Tfd› ū, which is really just a workaround for how browser rendering of the unicode sequence ᵘ̄ is visually poor.
Usage
[edit]{{alt|1|2}} displays as 1 but will be selected (copy-and-pasted, etc) as 2.
