Criteria for inclusion of municipalities

  • in list of "major cities": either a census metropolitan area or big enough to be one on its own if it weren't already part of another CMA (usually, population ≥100,000).
  • in list of "other cities": hub city of a census agglomeration.
  • in regional lists: for most regions, status of "ville" (V), or population of at least 5,000 in 2006 census, highlighted if 10,000 or over; for Montréal and Laval, all municipalities; for Nord-du-Québec, status of ville (V), or population at least 1,000 in 2006 census, highlighted if over 2,000; for Montérégie, population at least 10,000 in 2006 census, highlighted if over 25,000.
