Template:ANI status/sandbox
Status: Requires attention
This is the template sandbox page for Template:ANI status (diff). See also the companion subpage for test cases. |
What this template is
[edit]This template is used under the header of an ANI request to summarize if it (still) requires attention. Its use will hopefully help patrolling admins quickly identify threads which need input.
What this template isn't
[edit]ANI reports are by definition complex and sometimes fast-paced - this template does attempt to be, nor should it be, a complete list of every possible status of a report.
This template should not be considered "the official status" of a report! It's a helpful nudge, that's all.
Quick usage
[edit]Brand new reports | → | {{ANI status}} | → | Status: Requires attention |
Requiring admin action | → | {{ANI status|admin}} | → | Status: Requires admin attention |
No longer requiring action | → | {{ANI status|done}} | → | Status: No further action currently required |
Statuses
[edit]New reports
[edit]New ANI reports should use {{ANI status}} with no parameters - this marks a report as
- Status: Requires attention
and flags the section as requiring attention of some sort.
Requiring admin action
[edit]We should expect most, if not all, reports to ANI as requiring some sort of admin action.
This is not always the case, and so to especially flag such sections which do, the template should be changed to {{ANI status|admin}}, which marks a report as
- Status: Requires admin attention
and flags the section as requiring admin attention of some sort.
No longer requiring action
[edit]Once an ANI report has progressed (see below), the template should be changed to {{ANI status|done}}, which marks a report as
- Status: No further action currently required
and flags the section as no longer needing attention.
What does "progressed" mean?
[edit]At first glance, an ANI report will appear to not follow this simple "three step approach" - in reality, most do at a very simple level. Progression of a report could mean:
- An admin has blocked the reported user.
- An admin has blocked everyone because it was an awful report.
- An admin has decided that nothing needs to be done, please go away.
- The community has voted to topic ban someone.
- The report filer has realised that ANI was not the place to report this and has withdrawn.
- Everyone in the thread has retired.
Essentially, progressed should mean "the report no longer needs the attention of an admin/the community". An outcome of some sort has been reached.
Comments
[edit]An optional comment can be added using the |comment
parameter. For example {{ANI status|admin|comment=Requires closing}} shows
- Status: Requires admin attention: Requires closing
Archiving
[edit]Once an ANI thread has been marked
- Status: No further action currently required
for a "reasonable amount of time", it is likely to be archived. Some reports call for the use of {{atop}} and a closing comment - this can be added around the {{ANI status}} template and then archived as normal.
