Template:ÖBL2
This template provides links to articles in the Österreichisches Biographisches Lexikon ab 1815 (ÖBL Online, Austrian biographical dictionary) in HTML format. See template {{ÖBL}} which links to PDF facsimile pages of that work in its printed edition for the years 1815–1950.
This template is implemented as a wrapper to template {{Cite encyclopedia}}, thus it will accept all parameters of that template. The required, unnamed (positional) parameters for this template are:
|1=– the subject's first name|2=– the subject's last name|3=– year of birth|4=– year of death
The 'name' parameters (1, 2) must not contain any diacritics, umlaut or special characters. (The order of first/last name was chosen to match the behaviour if this templates version at the German Wikipedia, de:Vorlage:ÖBL2.) If the actual name does contain such characters, the parameter |title= can be used to display the name properly; see example 2.
Author parameters are recommended.
To find the exact parameters, go to the ÖBL's landing page and search for the subject's name in the field Nachname. This will create a pop-up window with a link to the article. Do not directly click on the offered link, but either open it in a new tab or window or copy the link to your clipboard. From that URL, extract the required parameters that can be found between .../oebl/oebl_n/ and .xml; disregard the captial letter after /oebl_ – it will be automatically generated by this template from the first letter of the subject's last name.
The resulting page may contain an author below the article, and additional bibliographical information for this article from the print edition, like volume and page number. These can be added when using this template as they would be entered for its wrapping target, {{Cite encyclopedia}}. There may also be a link to a PDF file of the corresponding page in the printed edition, labelled Druckausgabe PDF.
