I
[edit]I think this article should be renamed zygomaticus major. that is the proper name of the muscle. I dont know how to rename an article though. (comment from anon)
- I have moved the article to Zygomaticus major muscle. --Arcadian 07:14, 5 February 2006 (UTC)
The term "zygomatic arch" is normally coined to the zygomatic process of the temporal bone. Since both the zygomaticus major and zygomaticus minor attach at the actual zygomatic bone and not at the zygomatic process of temporal bone (aka zygomatic "arch") it is false to say that the zygomaticus major attaches at the zygomatic arch. See R.M.H McMinn's Color Atlas of Human Anatomy. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 149.159.81.227 (talk) 21:36, 23 April 2009 (UTC)
Contradiction
[edit]Which branch of the facial nerve innervates the zygomaticus major? Zygomaticus major muscle's infobox says zygomatic branch. List of muscles of the human body says buccal branch. Can anyone resolve this discrepancy?
Oh, and please... resolve this by using direct knowledge, not "common sense". ("Oh, that's easy, zygomatic innervates zygomatic" just won't cut it!) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 184.96.112.194 (talk) 10:52, 28 December 2010 (UTC)
There is no contradiction, it is just not written clearly. The facial nerve innervates the zm with both of these branches. The upper half of the zm is innervated by the zygomatic branch, while the lower half of the zm is innervated by the buccal branch.
