I wanted to explain my recent edit. I noticed while reading this that the text was highly fragmented, and err...a bit "personalized" for an encyclopedic article. It made me suspicious enough to do a Google search and I noticed the following URL came up: http://www.jafi.org.il/education/actual/ykippur/4-6.html . It turns out this URL is already listed in the article references, as having been retrieved in August 2006. The entirety of the text under the former heading "Zvika Force" was lifted from this page.

The text was originally added by an anonymous user in this edit. Apparently this user clicked on the already-existing reference link, copied the whole article, and pasted it into this one.

FYI, from this page the source material in question is copyright "The Pedagogic Center, The Department for Jewish Zionist Education, JAFI, Jerusalem 2003."

Palestinian terrorists/fighters

[edit]

While I personally believe that attacking civilian targets (like cities) might be considered terrorism (and most likely is a war crime) I agree that we should avoid using the "terrorist" term. However, "fighters" or "war criminals" aren't much better. How about we use just "Palestinians"?

Rank?

[edit]

Most of the references call him a lieutenant, but some, including Haaretz[1] and what looks like an official citation[2], refer to him as a captain. Personally, I find it unlikely that a 21-year-old would have been a captain, but what do I know? Anybody know for sure? Clarityfiend (talk) 02:55, 21 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Also, while I've got a reference for him leaving the army as a colonel, the infobox says he only served a couple of years. Clarityfiend (talk) 07:58, 21 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

During Yom Kippur war his rank was "Serren" which is equivalent to Captain Major. Less than Major and higher than captain. In the IDF it's possible to be in this rank at the age of 21, although uncommon. Later on, he served in reserve forces, where ranks also advance, albit slower, and ranked up to "Aluf Mishne" which is Colonel. אליבאבא (talk) 15:10, 1 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
