Internship Expired?
[edit]I'm not 100% sure, but I think I read somewhere that his internship expired around the time that he stopped working on his MTG.com column. Davemcarlson 20:27, 26 June 2006 (UTC)
External Link
[edit]I follow Zvi on livejournal, which is to say, I would if he ever posted there. Having an external link doesn't make any sense at all. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.66.106.94 (talk) 01:18, 25 July 2010 (UTC)
- He doesn't use it very often and also says so. One should not see at as a livejournal despite the name, but currently I see no reason to remove the link. It is still an archive of some of his personal comments on various things. OdinFK (talk) 09:09, 27 July 2010 (UTC)

[edit]He has 24,500 Google hits ([1]). I know that's not infallible, but it suggests some notability.--Runcorn 20:02, 22 May 2006 (UTC)
- There could be a lot of people who misspelled his name too. Davemcarlson 20:27, 26 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit]172 unique [2] which is very very few for a dude who used to be a "popular internet writer". - CrazyRussian talk/contribs/email 20:15, 22 May 2006 (UTC) <-Look again, it is 11100 for "Zvi Mowshowitz"...
Delete?!?
[edit]Zvi-man's got 172 unique articles? Is that on StarCity Games or just Magicthegathering.com? The Ronin 21:10, 22 May 2006 (UTC)

Outdated emphasis
[edit]Zvi Mowshowitz's recent work and prominence has been around AI safety and he's been in a lot of debates and interviews on the subject. His substack blog majors on this - although there are some other subjects mostly of a rationalist bent and there was a previous emphasis on Covid prediction https://thezvi.substack.com/
I've put in a bit around this and will try to improve this article over time, but I feel that the current emphasis on Magic The Gathering is outdated and my previous cack handed attempt to change it was resisted. Is there any particular reason why his previous activities are more important than his current activities beyond inertia?

- I've made some changes to the ordering of the article and the wording of the lead to make the current activities more prominent. Haven't changed much actual content outside the lead. JASpencer (talk) 12:51, 27 September 2023 (UTC)
- I did find this opinion article in NYT by Mowshowitz, which says at the top that "Mr. Mowshowitz writes a newsletter about artificial intelligence.":

Mentioned by the subject
[edit]Zvi mentioned that this article was considerably outdated in this substack article:
https://thezvi.substack.com/p/ai-72-denying-the-future?open=false#%C2%A7the-wikipedia-war
I've messaged him on Substack and invited him to put any requested changes on this Talk page. This sort of thing can cause distress to subjects so I'm sure that people will treat these requests respectfully.
Edit - Just seen User:Jensfiederer has also made an update from that blog page.

- I think it's possible that you misread that post. He disagrees with a factual claim here, yes, but most of the discussion is about the LessWrong article. WeyerStudentOfAgrippa (talk) 11:48, 12 July 2024 (UTC)
- The point was that this has been mentioned by the subject. The Wikipedia policy forbidding people from editing their own articles is a wise one, but an unfortunate side effect is that if they do notice something wrong with their page there is little they can do unless they know about Talk pages. I thought I would put this in the Talk page so that any discussion can come through here without revert wars. I accept that the LessWrong page needs work. JASpencer (talk) 05:47, 13 July 2024 (UTC)

Ownership
[edit]There seems to be an WP:OWN issue on this page with User:WeyerStudentOfAgrippa trying to protect this page. This page is seriously outdated and I'm sure that this hasn't been the aim but this has been preserved by over reliance on policy and under reliance on trying to find a good faith solution to this problem. JASpencer (talk) 09:57, 17 July 2024 (UTC)
- @JASpencer Thanks for clarifying sourcing around the career correction. What content would you like to add to this BLP article, and what are your sources? WeyerStudentOfAgrippa (talk) 11:55, 17 July 2024 (UTC)
- Sorry, been on holiday for a while. I think the general issue is that the balance of the article seems to be out of date. His Magic The Gathering stuff seems to be in his past (I may be wrong) and it's taking the vast majority of the article and his current writing from a Rationalist viewpoint, which seems to be known for not only more recently but by a wider audience (including the New York Times) is given very little prominence. JASpencer (talk) 06:28, 27 July 2024 (UTC)
- @JASpencer That doesn't add much. I still don't understand your concern with the MTG content. Our description of his recent writing is limited by reliable source coverage. WeyerStudentOfAgrippa (talk) 08:53, 27 July 2024 (UTC)
